Fat Butcher Arrogance
I recently had a disappointing experience with The Fat Butcher in Stellenbosch, which is surprising given its high ratings and positive reviews. It all started when I called to make a reservation for two for dinner. The person who answered was very short, sharply stating they only had space before 4pm and after 9pm. I said thank you and I would get back to them. When I called back, I phoned three times with no answer. Determined to secure a table, my wife and I decided to visit the restaurant in person, despite the pouring rain. Upon arrival, we were met with further frustration. A lady in a pink chef’s outfit walked past us without greeting, busy taking pictures of ducklings and chatting with her friend while we stood outside waiting for assistance. Despite three or four staff members, including the manager, looking at us from inside the restaurant, no one bothered to attend to us. A sense of arrogance was felt by both my wife and I. For a restaurant with such a stellar reputation, the lack of basic customer service was appalling. It seems they've forgotten that the most important aspect of a restaurant is its customers. I am very disappointed and hope they address these issues to improve their service.

I was fortunate to get a booking at The Fat Butcher in Stellenbosch for last night. Their service surpassed my expectations. The menu, food, staff (I had my own "ambassador" ---waitor and chefs tasting surprise.

Best Dining Experience
Single handedly one of the best, if not the best dining experience of my life. Rated as one of the best restaurants in the country, I can definitely see why. From the friendliest reception to the quick attentiveness of the waitress to take our drinks and food order. The ambiance created with the Stellenbosch night air and the light buzz of agreement with the delicious spectacle served upon the patrons. The food was spectacular and precisely just as we ordered it. The transition was smooth, and the experience was amazing. Will definitely revisit!

Poor management
Food was good. However this family restaurant had a group of loud and roudy people. The group was loud, swore often and made the restaurant experience pleasant. Management did not make much effort to calm down the roudy group.

This is the best steakhouse in South Africa. Well done especially the Andre the manager. He went out of his way to make this the best lunch of my life. He deserves a massive pay increase... I hope Rita reads this...

I have returned to the Fat Butcher more times than I can count for their incredible food. The steaks are always cooked to my exact specifications and I am not even a big red meat eater, but they are the exception
