We had a horrible experience today. First our drinks was warm, no to little ice. Then our food was overcooked. We did the responsible thing and took an Uber but our phones died and the owner did not want us to charge our phones to get an Uber or wanted to help us to find someone to take us home to Somerset West. She was very rude and when one of the staff members wanted to help us, she yelled at them. We always used to take out of towners there and its the first place we say to people to visit. But we will never go back.

The waiter that always serves us is nice. The issue is who I was told was the owner. I was blocked by cars in the parking lot, Ivan told my friend he would assist to get me out of the parking. When I got to the parking, he started by telling me I can’t drive because I couldn’t get out of the parking with an SUV, while blocked by another SUV. From the get go, of me trying to reverse out of the parking, this man starts yelling at me for turning the wheels to a degree that is less or more than how he wanted it to be turned. I stayed calm while being yelled at. He then came over to the driver side, aggressively yelling, removed my hands and started aggressively turning the car wheels while yelling at me to reverse. Midway through this, he yells at me to turn the wheels, as soon as I place my hands on the wheels, he hits my hands. He then yelled at me again to turn the wheels, and for the 2nd time hits my hands, at this point I tell him that he doesn’t need to aggressive yell or hit my hands to give an instruction. He then mumbled and walked off, leaving me in an even worse position. We live in a country where GBV stats are extremely high, where we deal with ***ist people everyday, yet you have owners of places like Thirsty Scarecrow who act in a threatening manner. You are a man being aggressive towards a female and you found an issue with me standing up for myself and telling you not to hit me or yell at me. I’ve DMed their facebook page and no one has responded, instead they made a post about Summer vibes.

What an absolute nightmare!! My wife took a sip of her beverage and started gagging. When she spit, she found a piece of glass. We found more pieces of glass in her drink. The manager was so unhelpful, didnt even looked bothered. When we phoned the owner Kelly there was no response. So unacceptable, who knows if my wife swallowed more glass.

We have been going to Thirsty Scarecrow for years now- for birthdays, celebrations and date night and we have always had a pleasant time. The waiters are always very friendly and the food is incredible. We will always keep going back :)

On sunday 1 May 2022, I was invited to join some friends for a birthday celebration at the thirsty scarecrow. I have been there before and enjoyed their food and atmosphere but on Sunday it was terrible. We were at table of give or take 20 people and would have expected more that one waiter to assist with such a large group. we ordered food and drinks, the bill was over R7k so the waiter received a generous tip but in my opinion he was not deserving of this tip. he was impatient with taking our order, at one point he walked away whilst someone was placing an order with him as she just mixed up a ****tail name. everyone understood that they needed to be patient with him but he had no patients with any of us. at one point he told us all to place one order with him to avoid he going back and forth as if he was doing us a favor, really now we paid for his service. Thirsty scarecrow please make sure you have the right staff and that they are ready to serve big tables when they need to as they could easily be chasing away your customers

To the manager that told me to go write a review on their terrible service, here you go. Would not recommend anyone to come here, the staff as well as the manager was rude when we complained about our drinks taking 45 min and then telling one of the people to keep quite when they wanted to change their order. Our mains was also cold as we were told OUR mains are done 3 min after we received our starters. Would not recommend to support this business.

The Thirsty Scarecrow is an unassuming, rustic spot off the R44, but what a treasure! We booked a 21st party on the top deck, their venue for hire space, and it was a raging success, and something different from the usual restaurant or wine farm event in the area. Ivan, Kelley, Neil and the team there pulled out all the stops - and not just for us, this is what they do - to ensure a smooth event. Kelley's catering was amazing, their options so flexible, and they were a pleasure to deal with. The restaurant/bar itself is well stocked, and the highlight for us was the beer-base pizza. We'll be back for more of that!
