18 Jan 2023, 15:00It is with great surprise to read the unfortunate and unmeritorious review by Mr K, particularly the per se defamatory allegations levelled therein. We deny that we are the embodiment of corporate cancer, that we did not negotiate a discount (or that we are in any event obliged to do so), that we are cold and cruel or that we will step on persons. We note that the review contains no complaint in re the service which he, as a purchaser, received. For the sake of record, our office was appointed by a seller to attend to the transfer and Mr K is, accordingly, not our client. It is trite in South Africa that a seller is entitled to appoint a conveyancer. We were not involved whatsoever with the negotiation or preparation of the agreement between the seller and the purchaser and only received the instructions thereafter. Mr K contacted our office and requested a substantial discount on our fees as he believed that a friend of his would have given him such a substantial discount. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide such a substantial discount to any person, whether to a client or, in this case, an outside party. We however offered and provided Mr K with a smaller discount on our fees, which he has conveniently failed to record in his review. Apart from the fact that there is no legal or other basis on which Mr K was entitled to demand or receive a substantial discount, he does not understand that, having regard to the cost of a law practice, simply providing such discounts will result in the firm operating at a loss, jeopardising the livelihoods of hundreds of employees. We will, unfortunately, now have to proceed with further steps against Mr K resulting from his defamatory allegations.
Best regards,
