A few days before the service, during a walk around with the owner, Johan, I specifically requested that no bushes or shrubs be trimmed or pruned while the workers were cutting grass, removing ****s, trimming edges, etc. I pointed out every item that shouldn't be touched. On the day, he and I did a second tour with the team supervisor. The owner left, and the team went on to prune almost everything - and very badly. In several cases, they cut main branches back to the base and left the prunable growth. They removed two years' growth from a cycad that shields a bathroom window from the road. Along with decimating some others, they 'pruned' eighteen-year-old bushes that masked stretches of wall. This happened in 2021 (I wanted to see how quickly the garden recovered - benefit of the doubt) and the cycad has only just recovered, the bushes are years away from recovery. The owner made a number of excuses for his workers, including that he was't on site??? I was devastated. A well-established garden became partially-naked in the space of a few hours. If there had been some recompense and a decent apology it might have helped, but the owner was adamant neither was an option.
