I own an auto repairs workshop and recently have had a client tow in a vehicle (Renault scenic mk1 2004) that would not start. I diagnosed an issue with the immobilizer and immediately went on the hunt for the perfect tool that would not only benefit my workshop for years to come but would be comprehensive in diagnosing issues / key programming ( which is what i needed for this vehicle) and reprogramming ecus etc... After a few days of research i have decided on the can clip but i needed it fast as my client's patience was wearing thin and so i didn't want to have to import it as this would take too long. I am also aware that cheap chinese fakes could not do programming and key programming that i could bring in for about R1000 if i wanted that (which obviously i didn't). So i decided to check the local market to see what was available and to my surprise www.autotools.co.za link to product --> http://autotools.co.za/product/renault-can-clip-advanced-diagnostic-tool-latest-v145/ <-- has stock and if you check the details of the device under description (assuming the info has not been changed) you will see that it states the unit is capable of key programming and ecu programming which implies that this is a genuine unit also considering i was paying a premium on this device compared to R1000 i thought it has to be genuine. When meeting up with Mr Dave i was expecting to see a large building with professional diagnostics tools on display but it turns out he operates from his home (which was red flag #1) but at this point i am so desperate for the tool I decided to look past that. I also made sure to ask him if the unit was genuine and he assured me that it was a genuine unit and that just the software was fake (red flag #2) but again desperation got the better of me, besides he seemed like such a nice guy as i was handing him my seriously hard earned cash, i mean i work on cars far fsakes. So I get home and start the process of trying to figure this thing out. After a few hours of struggling to gt the software to work eventually i decide to contact Mr Dave and ask him for help and it turns out his even more clueless about his own products than i was, infact at some point he even got defensive which is quite contrary to what he claims his business is all about on his website. --> http://autotools.co.za/about-us/ <-- So left to figure things out on my own i eventually got it working, but it did not do what i expected an original unit would do. Infact it only allowed me to diagnose the vehicle which is what All chinese unit are only capable of. I had an expert look at it and confirm that it is indeed a fake... I have informed Mr Dave that i would like a refund and am currently awaiting his reply. I will also be pursuing legal action if no settlement is made.
