I recently gave birth at Addington Hospital and recieved horrifying treatment from their security personnel upon exit after being discharged with my little girl. So the doctors discharged both me and my daughter 3 days after giving birth. So I called my parents to come and fetch us from the hospital. So the security guard didn't allow them into the ward for some reason, she came and told me my parents were here and I got up, took my baby and asked who was going to help me carry the bags as I had quite some luggage. I couldn't carry it all with a fresh cesarean operation while carrying my child as well. She said she'd carry my bags for me and when we got to the exit of the ward where my parents were waiting for me, she then asked to search my bag. I laid it on the table, she opened it and took everything that was in it out and came across a pack of Cariwell pads that I'd just opened that very morning. The entire time I was hospitalized, I used the hospital's pads until they ran out the Night before I was discharged. Luckily, I had my own. So in the morning i opened mine after my bath and used 2. Now Addington had the very same brand which caused my dilemma. Now this woman accused me of *****ing these pads of which I very calmly explained I had bought them at Clicks Baby prior as I knew I was going to give birth soon and I'd need them. I even bought maternity underwear so I could wear it comfortably. Ay she wasn't hearing any of it. She was adamant and insisted they belonged to the hospital. She even went on to say we ***** babies and put them in our bags. I was carrying my daughter that I'd just given birth to.. so it went from *****ing pads to babies in a split second because there was no way a young black girl could walk into a shop and buy things she'd need for when she was in labour to prepare for birth and what happens after birth. My mom kindly asked her to let us go as I was standing and had a fresh cesarean operation, my dad even asked for a chair so I could at least sit. No, she refused. She then said if I didn't ***** them it means my parents are the ones that stole them for me cos they work in hospitals and ***** things for their kids. How appalling. From accusing me to *****ing pads then a kid to then accusing my parents. How does she even know where they work if they even do? She said that she was not going to lose her job because of us ******* and she was going to make a strong example out of us. My mom kept pleading to let us go and she wouldn't listen. I was so weak I didn't have the energy to fight with her. She kept us there for almost an hour just standing for nothing trying to reach her superiors. She was going up and down on her walkie talkie saying a crime had been committed and she was going to check the barcode and came back and said it was indeed the hospital's. She said we must go down to meet her supervisor to our suprise when we got down, there was no supervisor waiting for us, only another security guard who also plead to what her colleague was saying that the pads were ****** from the hospital. They took them from me at such a crucial time when I needed them the most, right after giving birth when your bleeding is so heavy you can't control. And for women to do something so inhumane to another woman was just appalling. They took them and told us to leave. As soon as I got home, I emptied my bags and there the slip(reciept) was with the pads on top and everything else I had bought for myself and the baby. I quickly went and showed my mom and she told me to put it safely in her bag. She would go back to the hospital and show them.. and my what a run around they gave her!!! The guards had been placed elsewhere and no one was getting back to us!!!! Poor poor service!!
