Canvas blind scam
A representative from Al Awnings, Jason Lithgow from Johannesburg gave me a quote for a set of patio canvas drop-blinds of approximately 10,5 metres in width. The colour was to be a dark brown. Delivery time was 6 weeks from date of order, 16 May 2017. A deposit of R11 582 (50%) was paid the same day. 15 weeks after order Jason had not managed to source the material to install. After many phone calls to him about 18 weeks after order he declared he felt embarrassed and would make a refund of my deposit. 19 weeks after order no payment had been made and Jason felt that his boss Albert van Wyk , located in Cape Town would need to pay the refund. Albert was cordial on the phone and assured me he would make the transfer the same day. 21 weeks after order Albert is still dodging my phone calls. He does not acknowledge voice messages, sms, or WhatsApp messages. Please people, if considering an awning or canvas blinds, do not even consider Al Awnings. They are scam artists. 12 Oct 2017, 08:13I did not know Al from Al's Awnings existed until he phoned me. He was very upset that the matter had gone this far without his knowledge. As a business owner myself, I have to sympathise with him when relying on staff to do the right thing.
Al has vowed to correct the situation and immediately refund me.
Maybe my words of scam artists was a bit strong, but after half a year and a complete run around my frustration bubbled over.
Interestingly enough, I have had previous aluminium roof installations done by Al Awnings, which I may add were without problems. This was 2 years ago.
