Substandard remote

I recently bought a UEC4165 unit as my previous 4139 unit was hit by a power surge but unfortunately the remote control stopped working! Unfortunately remotes are not covered under the warrantee! The remote control for the UEC4165 unit is weak,flimsy and poor quality! You would think a company such as Altech UEC would manufacture a remote of higher quality that would last at least a year!
