I had an engine failure en route to Johannesburg from Durban December thirtieth last year. This happened on the N3, about twenty kilometres north of Estcourt. My insurance sent a rollback that delivered myself and the stricken bakkie to ARS Auto, located at 213 Albert Street in Estcourt. I was met there by Shane Sriram - the owner. After a quick assessment, Shane said that he would need to strip the engine to find the fault(s). He called me a couple of days later and said that it would me more economically viable to replace the engine than to fix it. He also sent me videos and photos of the damaged parts. I gave him the go ahead to replace the engine and collected the bakkie from him thereafter. I drove back to Durban without issue. About two weeks later, the engine failed again. I called Shane who at the time was vacationing with his family on the KZN South Coast. He said that he would come and look at the vehicle on his way home from his holiday. He did so and said that he needed the vehicle at his workshop in Estcourt to rectify the problem. He organised for the vehicle to be collected and it was taken to his workshop on a trailer. He fixed the problem and had the vehicle delivered back to me in Durban. All of this was done when most businesses were closed for the Christmas holidays. Although the replacement engine had a warranty, Shane still incurred expenses sorting this out. Despite that, he did not charge me anything. He just wanted me to be happy and have a reliable vehicle again. He really went the extra mile.
