I recently booked a classic family room at Avalon Springs, expecting a comfortable stay with a private balcony, as advertised. However, upon arrival, my family and I were dismayed to find that the room provided bore little resemblance to the description. Not only was there no private balcony, but the room resembled a standard hotel room, failing to meet the expectations set by the adverti*****t.
Adding to our disappointment, when I raised the issue of the missing balcony, I was advised that I should have explicitly requested a room with a private balcony. This was puzzling, as the adverti*****t clearly stated "private balcony" under the classic family room description. To clarify, I even showed a screenshot indicating the specific mention of a private balcony for the family room, further underscoring the discrepancy between what was promised and what was provided.
The resolution process was far from satisfactory. We had to engage with multiple managers, which only exacerbated our frustration. Initially offered a mere pizza as compensation, we felt further insulted when the resolution escalated to a paltry R500, hardly enough to offset the inconvenience and disappointment caused by the false advertising.
To compound matters, when we requested to be moved to a room with a balcony, we were met with further delay. We were only relocated the following day, adding unnecessary inconvenience to an already disappointing experience.
During checkout at Avalon Springs, I asked to speak to the manager and was met by Valda Muurman, the assistant manager. She promised to provide us with a complimentary voucher as our enquiry was not effectively handled. However, despite reaching out to her on many occasions, I have still not received the complimentary voucher.
As a customer, I expect transparency, honesty, and accountability from hospitality establishments. Unfortunately, Avalon Springs failed to deliver on these fundamental expectations, resulting in one of the most disappointing holiday experiences my family and I have ever endured.
