I am writing to formally raise a serious complaint and demand the immediate resolution of a long-outstanding refund issue regarding my registration at Berea Technical College in September 2024. When I enrolled, I was informed that the course fee was R17 000, which I later discovered was an error on your side due to administrative incompetence. The correct course fee was R12 000. I was then told that a refund would be processed within 3 to 6 months, which is completely unacceptable, considering how swiftly payments are demanded from students when enrolling. Between September and December 2024, I made monthly payments of R1 250, and in January 2025, I paid a further R12 000. In February 2025, I was contacted and informed that I had been registered for the wrong course, again due to your team’s negligence. As a result, I overpaid by R5 000, and to date (October 2025) this amount has still not been refunded. I spoke to Tracey two weeks ago and was informed that my refund is with external auditors. I fail to understand what “external auditors” have to do with my refund money that rightfully belongs to me due to your institution’s repeated administrative failures. This reasoning appears to be nothing more than an excuse to delay repayment. This entire experience has been unprofessional, frustrating, and unacceptable, especially for an institution that prides itself on being reputable. The level of service I have received is disgraceful, and the continued delays now border on financial misconduct. If this issue is not fully resolved and the refund is processed by the first week of November 2025, I will be left with no choice but to: Escalate this matter publicly on social media and review platforms, Lodge a formal complaint with the Department of Higher Education and Training, I expect written confirmation of receipt of this email and a clear timeline for the refund within 3 business days.

ZERO STAR RATING !!!! Register with Berea Technical College for distance learning at your own risk. At first, the registration process seemed smooth, thanks only to Vimla Roopchand, who was helpful and professional. But from the moment I made payment, everything fell apart. The institution failed me completely. Despite being promised communication and support, I was left in the dark. I had to constantly chase for updates and assistance, while on my end I always responded promptly and fulfilled every requirement. Instead of proper guidance, I received excuses, silence, and empty promises. Even the most basic tasks, like accessing Moodle and receiving assignments, turned into a battle I had to fight on my own. When assignments were finally sent, they were already weeks late—completely missing the deadlines set out in their own official student calendar. There was no apology, no sincerity, and no accountability from the staff involved, particularly Alicia Harilal, the Senior Academic. This institution has shown incompetence, negligence, and a total lack of professionalism. They wasted my time, my money, and my energy. If this is how they treat their students at the very start of their journey, what more during the rest of the program? Absolutely disgraceful !!!!

The management at Berea is largely not honest. Jessie Naidoo continually lies with creditors. If you do work for the college, they misappropriate the intellectual material with no intention of paying. Jessie Naidoo's extreme dishonest is sad as she is working with young adults who are trying to obtain a qualification, and having a management team with no ethics will filter through to the poor students. Avoid the college at all costs as the team is not honest.

My son was registered as a distance learner. The first semester was fine, although going to write his exams was hair raising. It is in a terrible area, with druggies & hoodlums all around. The 2nd semester was a shambles. Long story short, he registered, we paid in full, he didn't complete the course or write the exams. Yesterday, 2 years down the line, I get a message saying we owe R1500 as, according to them, he was registered as a full time student. After much heated discussion, I asked the person to send me the signed form showing that he was registered as full time... Oh, he doesn't have that information, and will have to get hold of another department to get it, in the meantime I must pay the outstanding amount! I think not! Would not recommend anyone enroll with them.

My daughter was registered and attended the school last year. We overpaid her fees for the year, assuming that she would return this year. However, she, fortunately, had an opportunity to do a leadership programme out of the province and could not carry on with her studies at the campus. We requested in Jan of this year for a refund on the balance and submitted all the necessary documents. We have received the funds since today. Every time we try to speak to someone so that we can get a way forward they just promise us it will be sorted in a week or two. If that is not the case, then they inform us that it has been escalated to a department for approval. I am tired of going into that campus and coming back with nothing and our emails are not even responded to when we send for feedback.

I was in Durban CBD yesterday and was close to this college by the workshop. This may not be relevant but I feel I need to be heard out. I was walking past the entrance of the college and a **** possibly to rob me was following me and harassing me for my money. I pleaded with the security guard of the college at the entrance as he witnessed what happened. He took it as deaf ears and probably thought I was over reacting. He said the **** won't do me anything and demanded me to leave the entrance. He probably wouldn't have done that if that happened to his child. Thank you Berea technical college it's clear what is your motto at your college: A persons life and safety is not important. I only came by the entrance for safety and shelter but the security guard didn't care. And I had to give the **** R30 because I had my belongings with me . And feared that he would take my bag and phone and if I could have been ******, I could have sued the security guard because I was not armed. I was not a threat and he was my last hope that I couldn't be potentially ****** in that situation and he could have prevented it from happening . Heartless people. If this can happen at the entrance? What happens inside with your staff?
