Berkowitz Shnier Van Niekerk & Assoc

I recently had a breast cancer lumpectomy at the Morningside Clinic. The morning after just as I was being discharged this young guy arrived with these compression socks for me and the lady in the next bed. He did'nt introduce himself, he just proceeded to fit these socks. I asked him how much these cost and he did not answer my question, just laughed and said Don't worry Medical Aid pays for them. Well They Don't! This company claimed R743.10 from my medical aid, but they have only paid R280.20. So now I owe R462.90. This company should be banned from all hospitals. They are unprofessional and *********. They take advantage of patients who have just come through a General Anesthetic and an op without full disclosure. Non disclosure is against the Consumer Act. I was not fully informed of the cost. I am thinking I just might not pay them the balance of R462.90 and let them send me letters of demand from their lawyers. By the time they proceed with all that, it will cost them more than R462.90. What do you think? I am a widow, retired, and live off a very tight budget. This just pushes me further into poverty.
