The orthotist had me sign for post-op Wadek shoes in the hospital and when I asked how much they cost, he said around R800 each. I am now told that the paper I signed had the price on it. Why did the orthotist not point that out to me when I asked him for the price? Now I get the invoice: R1290 per shoe x 2 = R2590!! For plastic shoes that are hardly even used post-op, since doctor's orders are to stay in bed with feet raised.

I recently had the misfortune to be admitted to MediClinic Morningside and required an arm sling. I was charged a 177% mark up percentage! Not only was I nearly charged 4x the amount, I was charged R348 for the sling to be app****, only half of the sling was app****, the part around my neck. Does this mean that I am eligible for a 50% discount?

I recently had a breast cancer lumpectomy at the Morningside Clinic. The morning after just as I was being discharged this young guy arrived with these compression socks for me and the lady in the next bed. He did'nt introduce himself, he just proceeded to fit these socks. I asked him how much these cost and he did not answer my question, just laughed and said Don't worry Medical Aid pays for them. Well They Don't! This company claimed R743.10 from my medical aid, but they have only paid R280.20. So now I owe R462.90. This company should be banned from all hospitals. They are unprofessional and *********. They take advantage of patients who have just come through a General Anesthetic and an op without full disclosure. Non disclosure is against the Consumer Act. I was not fully informed of the cost. I am thinking I just might not pay them the balance of R462.90 and let them send me letters of demand from their lawyers. By the time they proceed with all that, it will cost them more than R462.90. What do you think? I am a widow, retired, and live off a very tight budget. This just pushes me further into poverty.

****mers. Whatever you do, check with your surgeon or doctor before you get your orthotics that this company will not be used! They will use the incorrect codes to make sure that medical aid won’t pay and then you(the customer) will be liable. This ensures that they get much more than what they would’ve gotten from medical aid. Oh and don’t forget the lawyers, they love sending them your way when you call them out and get them to use the correct codes with medical aids help. If you still choose to use them, good luck.

My wife went to Randburg Medicross for a sprained wrist. After the X-Rays, someone came along , said "Sign Here" and started fitting her with a wrist guard. The guard was clearly too big, and I had to convince the assistant to supply a smaller size, which fitted better. 3 weeks later, I was notified by my medical aid that this item is not covered by them and I have to pay the item in full myself - R1031.00 (which is R200 more than the medical aid rate). It would have been common courtesy to warn me that Medical Aid might not cover the item, and of the high cost. A suitable equivalent from any of the medical chain retailers would have been under R200.

I was submitted to hospital after damaging my meniscus (knee) and after X-rays I was told to have a knee brace. I was give one from the hospital and had to sign for receiving the brace. A week later I received a bill/account for R2045.00 and was told that medical aid does not pay anything. I found that the knee brace they gave me keep slipping down and did sit properly on my knee, I then went went to Dis-Chem and got a very similar brace for R347 and it works much better that the one giving at the hospital. When I informed berkowits (the company that gave the brace) that there brace was 6 times the price of Dis-Chems brace, I was told that I signed and acknowledged to be responsible for the payment. However, I was in pain and could not focus on what I signed for. I am now focused to pay the full amount or else I get handed over. Be very careful when get something for the berkowits company at any hospital.

i had a wrist injury beg. August and needed a wrist support ,so i was told by the attending Dr at the hospital. I said i could get one at Dischem but then was told that they had one in stock so they came and fitted it. and i had to sign a form to say they had supplied a support. i was not told the cost of the support at any such point. I left the hospital as they said there was nothing yet to pay. My Medical Aid did not pay due to my savings being depleted as per the medical aid statement i recevived. i now almost 3 months later received an account over WHatsapp which is way way more more than a similar product at Dischem and clicks, wihch is only R 165. This company has charged me R1031,00!!!! THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE RIP OFF AND SECONDLY THEY DONT TELL YOU ANYTHING FIRST HOW MUCH YOU ARE BEING CHARGED!!

I gave birth at Netcare Olivedale hospital and I was given socks by my gynae without any explanation. As a first time mom and first time being ever admitted at a hospital, I assumed that whatever I receive from the hospital, is part of my maternity package. Little did I know that I will be hounded and harassed by this company's lawyers for something I did not know about. The worst part is that I never even worn those socks. Now Grobler Rutsch Attorneys are on my back and the amount has even tripled the amount. I wonder if they can see someone can't pay R800, where do they think that person will get the R2200 from? Another thing is that we have all been warned about debts that randomly appear after birth, so you try to be vigilant. Only to be taken to lawyers for things you don't know. Please make sure that the hospital stuff explains to you what you get, because all i see is just people who give you things expecting your medical aid to pay and not necessarily care about you. Then if that claim fails, you're being sent to be harassed by lawyers you can't afford.
