Where do I start? Firstly - the food quality was average - nothing to write home about, what one would expect at any eartery. Now - 1: The font size on the menu - for goodness sakes - why should I have to SQUINT and wish I had a magnifying glass to read the menu???? 2: the item prices - R60 for a MILKSHAKE - ?!?!? The glass it's served in is a standard 440ml soda glass ( you know - the one tapered to the bottom like you see in the movies and every other place charges around 30 to 35 bux for) - must be a great beverage cost they are trying for - All other drinks are crazy prices too. 3: What we had - 2 x toasties - (we where there for a mid morning snack/late breakfast and coffees) @ 60 odd for their "in-house" bread and the fillings, tasty, but 2 slices toasted, with the filling, served on a flat board covered in a piece of A4 sized paper, NOTHING else with it, like a few fries/garnish, or anything?!? The bread size - like any sliced loaf you buy at the supermarket ( the larger of the 2 options of say Albany) and 3 of their original offering of eggs Benedict - Menu price R115 odd. Here, most of us meet for breakfast regularly and privately owned places like Lekker, places in Constantia Village (known for their prices anyway) and we are used to paying anywhere from R85 to R110 for the dish wherever we go - knowing the more pricey places make their own Hollandaise Sauce, for which we always receive 2 eggs - served on 2 ****ins/slices of choice of bread, the spinach, 2 to 3 rashers of bacon/the offered salmon, depending on one's choice, and doused in Hollondaise..... NOT AT BOOTLEGGERS!!!! OH NO, here you get 2 eggs, cooked to order of course, 1 rasher of bacon, spinach, and 1 sliced of in our case med sized sour dough....served on this massive round plate, and the sauce definitely not home-made! WHAT THE HECK?!?!? Are they trying for a food cost record here?!?!?! WHAT A RIP-OFF!!!!! Our group of friends have no problem paying for good quality and , even with the cost of things today (most of us have been or are currently in, the restaurant industry, so know what margins we aim for and need to achieve) - we all walked out of there this morning feeling like we had been bent over the tables and ***ually violated.....!!!! If the quality had blown our minds, I would have been perhaps a bit more forgiving - but seriously, to pay what we paid for the mediocre that we received, was a firm decision by us all never to set foot in a Bootleggers again. (Not surprised, as we commented, on New Year's Day where most places were closed, that they had a maybe 1/3 full place)
