03 Mar 2026, 09:51 Hi Angelique,
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us.
We understand that change, particularly during your third year of study, can feel disruptive and frustrating. The transition to TEXTBOOKS+ followed extensive research into global higher education trends, employer expectations, and the digital competencies graduates need to succeed in today’s workplace. Boston City Campus has a responsibility to ensure that our academic offering remains relevant, competitive, and aligned with modern professional environments, and this decision was made with long-term student success as the driving motivation.
TEXTBOOKS+ offers significantly more functionality than traditional printed textbooks. These include smart search across your entire textbook, automatic saving of highlights and annotations, bookmarking, offline access once downloaded, AI-powered research tools, and access to a digital library of over one million titles for extended academic support. The platform also allows full personalisation, including adjustable font sizes and styles, dark mode, custom background colours, contrast adjustments, and read-aloud functionality to support different learning preferences.
We recognise that adapting to new platforms takes time. Where technical challenges arise — such as functionality within Snapplify or text-to-speech settings — these are addressed in collaboration with our platform partners. We encourage you to report specific technical issues directly so that they can be escalated and resolved efficiently. Regarding academic performance, students will not be disadvantaged due to a platform transition. Academic standards, assessment processes, and lecturer accountability remain governed by institutional policy and quality assurance structures. Concerns regarding lecturer delivery or staff conduct are taken seriously and are reviewed through the appropriate academic channels.
To clarify, tuition and library fees have not been increased as a result of the TEXTBOOKS+ implementation. The prescribed textbook cost remains included in your fees, with expanded digital access and research capability forming part of the enhanced academic offering.
We would strongly encourage you to engage directly with your Support Centre so that the Support Centre Manager can arrange assistance and, if needed, a guided walkthrough of the platform features to ensure you are fully supported. You may also contact Head Office via info@boston.co.za if you would like the matter reviewed further.
We remain committed to supporting you through the remainder of your studies.
Regards,
Boston City Campus Team
Best regards,
