Our family were members of this fund for 17 years. Being a young healthy family we had little to no claims. In February this year our youngest son was rushed to hospital from our GP's needing emergency admission and surgery for kidney stones. On arrival at the hospital both us and the hospital called Cape Medical Plan for authorisation. We were told that NO authorisations were being given as the entire management and preauth dept were in a meeting and we should call back. This resulted in my son lying in agony in the reception area of the hospital for 6 hours. Between us and the hospital we called every hour only to be told that everyone was in a meeting and nothing could be done and we must wait, even the attending dr called and had no joy. No apology or explanation was given to us. We subsequently resigned from the fund as a result of this as I don't ever want to go through this again and I would warn any other members of the fund to be aware that they could face paying R8000 per month and when they need to use it in a life threatening situation they may have to wait while the entire fund are in a meeting for 6 hours.
