Please read the reviews on hellopeter on this **** medical aid. I lodged a complaint with the council for medical schemes and they make false allegations and lies. Do NOT join this ****! They lie saying they paid a GP visit but they billed me to pay them back for the GP visit. Waste of money! I left for a better medical aid. I feel sorry for that member who paid them for 50 YEARS! Shame.

Please read the reviews on hellopeter on this **** medical aid. I lodged a complaint with the council for medical schemes and they make false allegations and lies. Do NOT join this ****! Our family were members of this fund for 17 years. Being a young healthy family we had little to no claims. In February this year our youngest son was rushed to hospital from our GP's needing emergency admission and surgery for kidney stones. On arrival at the hospital both us and the hospital called Cape Medical Plan for authorisation. We were told that NO authorisations were being given as the entire management and preauth dept were in a meeting and we should call back. This resulted in my son lying in agony in the reception area of the hospital for 6 hours. Between us and the hospital we called every hour only to be told that everyone was in a meeting and nothing could be done and we must wait, even the attending dr called and had no joy. No apology or explanation was given to us. We subsequently resigned from the fund as a result of this as I don't ever want to go through this again and I would warn any other members of the fund to be aware that they could face paying R8000 per month and when they need to use it in a life threatening situation they may have to wait while the entire fund are in a meeting for 6 hours.

I am at the end of my tether with my very elderly Dad's medical aid. Dad is 83 years old and suffers from quite severe Parkinsons. He has been with Cape Medical Plan since 1976, which I suspect is longer than most of the employees have been alive! The company was bought out some time in the late 90's but Dad stayed on as a customer. For the last 10 years he was on the top of the range package paying just over R16 000 per month for he and my 88 year old Mom. In January this year, (on their advice) he moved to a hospital plan which costs R6400 per month. Recently Dad attended a dentist who has said that about 10 of his teeth need to be removed due to rotting and an abscess at the back of his mouth. The dentist took X rays and referred us to a Maxillofacial surgeon at Busamed Hillcrest hospital. We made an appointment and saw the surgeon. He did an assessment and recommended Dad have surgery to remove 4 roots and 5 teeth (of course in theatre- given his age and frailty) However when I contacted Cape Medical plan they have told me that 1) They do not have Hillcrest Busamed as one of their providers and will not be paying for any surgery or stay or anything done at that hospital 2) They will only pay for the root removal of the teeth, not the additional teeth that need to be removed. The total quote for the surgery came in at R10 000, and they will only cover around half of that. In other words, they expect 83 year old Dad to go and have the other teeth removed in a chair on 5 additional days. 3) Dad no longer drives so we now need to start the entire process again at massive expense and time to consult with a different doctor who works at a hospital of their choice which is at least 20km away from where he lives. It is highly inconvenient for us all to get him there for both the appointments and the surgery. 4) I have called his Gap cover but they have advised that it is very unwise to pay for the hospital upfront ourselves (who will require a deposit of around R120 000), as there is no guarantee that the medical aid or themselves will cover it once the procedure is completed. I really feel that with him having been of the age he is as well as having been a member for just under 50 years that this is the most shocking treatment of an elderly client.

Speak to the same person every time. You are a person, not a number. It won't cover everything, you need to understand all that they do, they try to keep their product easy to understand. They are also very helpful if you want to know what you are covered for.

CMP is the most useless medical aid ever my wife gave birth at n state hospital because they refuse to cover the pregnacy after we were onsit on the aplication form about the pregnacy after baby was born we had to rush her to medi clinic a day after birth now they tell me that they dont cover the baby she has an 3 month waiting period because the mother is not on the medical aid but i the father have been apart of this usless medical aid for almost 5 years she is an baby and the insist she must wait 3 months for any medical benifits an bay thats 2 weeks old is not coverd under her fathers medical aid Please tell me how that is right waht is the diffrence if i have medical cover and not the mother how do you refuse an 3 week old baby waht type of person refuses to help an baby and refuse to pay an babys medical bill bescause the mother is not coverd but the father is coverd this is the worst medical aid ever people if you have this medical aid and you want to have an baby please consider an difrent medical aid because cape medical plan is so full of **** they just want your money and give no regards to you or the well being of any of there clients

Cape Medical Plan says: Treatment for all Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) conditions is provided by any government/state facility or a CMP-nominated service provider. If you go to any of their Preferred Partners (e.g. Medi-Clinic) etc. - and then ONLY if they tried to get you into a state facility - they will only pay state hospital rates for your PMB treatment. Since the whole point of NHI is to remove the strain from state hospitals and facilities and provide for all patients to go to private facilities, CMP members will be better off with NHI!
