My recent experience with Car Mania has been deeply disappointing and I feel compelled to share my story as a warning to potential customers.
During a trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town, after picking up a Mercedes A200, I encountered a potentially life-threatening situation when all the left front wheel's nuts came loose, causing the wheel to become loose while driving. The vehicle started vibrating terribly and when I urgently stopped the vehicle, the wheel was completely loose with the car’s left side resting on the wheel. It could have resulted in severe damage to the vehicle if I stopped seconds later and the wheel came out from under the vehicle. Personal injury could have occurred if the incident had happened while I was driving at speed.
The financial implications of this incident were substantial. I had to incur out-of-pocket expenses just to restore the vehicle to roadworthy condition. Additionally, there was paint damage and a significant hole in the rim of the wheel. Despite being adequately insured, my insurance provider declined to cover the costs, citing the clear link between the accident and the “poor workmanship from the dealer”.
In my amicable efforts to seek resolution, I engaged with Car Mania, initially receiving assurances of assistance and even the appointment of a correspondent in Cape Town to oversee repairs. However, these promises turned out to be empty. Car Mania ultimately denied any responsibility for the incident, and it went as far as me being accused for my “possible negligence”.
The only compensation I received from Car Mania was a second-hand rim, which falls far short of adequately addressing the extensive damages incurred.
