In humane, no remorse and barbaric treatment to say the least. I came in just before 12pm Tuesday afternoon 19th May 2026 , I was rushed in with a severe 3 week headache as a cancer patient. The Dr in Triage bluntly told me your cancer is now on your brain. Go to window 2, open a file and go through that door to see if they can tell you what to do. The door I was sent into was the Polyclinic. This is where I was seen by emergency Drs, radiologist, nurses, and oncologist. They all told me this is an urgent matter and I need to be admitted immediately inorder to map a way forward and start treatment. We'll I would also imagine so because this is literally a time line between life and death (this is not the first time this hospital has left me risking the cancer spread because of making me wait). Wait on that plastic chair they said we will book your bed and get you sorted A.S.A.P. I been sitting on said small hard plastic chair for over 17 hours, with no sleep on strong pain medication to mask my pain, with no answers or further responses. My body is tense and my brain is tired but I cannot sleep because im seated in a small hard plastic chair. From early afternoon to sunrise the next day! Not allowed to move! Not allowed to speak up! Not allowed to question the smells and coughing next to me, even though my condition makes me nauseous and leaves me with an immune system that cannot fight back, not one of the staff even took into consideration that hey we cannot keep a cancer patient awake for 24 hours straight. Keep in mind, I'm a tax payer, been one for 17 years, and yet I pay as I earn at Charlotte Maxeke, not only that but I have to go to Donald Gorden Private hospital to spend 10s of thousands of rands to purchase my breast cancer treatment privately to bring it to Charlotte Maxeke for them to administer. Is this humane? Is this how sick and vulnerable is supposed to be treated? I have witnessed many others being neglected and even some being rolled out on a stretcher with a green canopy never to see the light of day again. In all honesty facing this hospital has become worse than facing cancer itself. Where's all the cancer advocates? I see many non profit organizations raking in donations blowing up balloons and doing cancer conferences at Charlotte Maxeke, singing Charlotte Maxekes praises, yet the same people they are advocating for is being ill treated and left for dead on the same grounds they celebrating!!! I have complained to the board on so many Seperate occasions, now my question is as a cancer patient am I really going to have to complain about every ward I enter? Every emergency admittance I end up in? Every clinic visit? Literally everytime there's an issue!
