We took our British guests for lunch at this restaurant on 12th March 2020. It was one of guest’s birthday so it was supposed to be a special treat. The tables were dirty and sticky. We were appalled at how disgusting the fish and chips was! This after being told it is the most popular dish by our waitress. The fish was cut from tail end bits of low quality fish, not fillets like one would expect. It was overly oily, and mostly chewy. Not even the tiny teas**** full of tartar sauce could hide how bad it was! The Cape Malay curry also made another guest sick that evening with diarrhea. The waitress was accommodating and friendly, but the manageress who admitted that it was a sub standard fish cut, treated me like I was taking a chance when I said I would not pay for my meal. I had left up to three quarters of it! She tried to win us over with a piece of cake. We didn’t want to eat anything else out of that kitchen. There was even a rat in the garden which was most off putting too. I did not appreciate the attitude of the mangeress at all. She embarrassed me in front of my guests by acting like I was looking for a free meal, even AFTER she herself admitted it was sub standard! I will NEVER go there again.

My aunt and I just had a horrible experience at the Madam Zingara Restaurant in the Company's Garden in Cape Town. <br> <br> My Aunt is a vegetarian and enquired about the vegetarian options. The waiter indicated that there are few options but he could make the chicken pasta with vegetables for her. My aunt decided to go with another option, I, on the other-hand, opted for the NORMAL chicken pasta which as I am not a veg. I made sure the waiter understood that I wanted the chicken pasta per usual. <br> <br> When we got our food I got the vegetarian pasta. It was only when I was half way done did I notice there was no chicken, as my aunt and I were in deep conversation. When I checked with the waiter he also confirmed he had made a mistake. I said I will finish the pasta if he just ensures I am not charged for the normal price. At the end when I was paying I noticed that the price was not changed. I went to the host and informed her about this - this is when it got ugly. The young host was RUDE to me and in front of my aunt. She was making its seem I was being unreasonable - she did not apologise and frankly was making a scene where people was watching us. She was totally unprofessional & bad.
