Pension fund not being paid to someone who resigned last year December

My family used to work for this company he resign before he fell ill but until now the pension fund not released but we really need the money to cater for him. The wife tried to access the money but Alexander Forbes now want us to have lawyers. But when contributing that money no lawyers were involved. We really need that money so that it can help to buy all needs for his medical condition. Plz help
