We attended the Corona Sunset Festival in Durban on the 29th September and I must bring one thing to Corona's attention.
I found it offensive, especially given the social spotlight of the #MeToo movement, that there hostesses were made to wear transparent net dresses with long slits up the leg (seemingly being completely see-through isn't enough) and bounce around playing with ***** in bikinis.
I know they were trying to be "fun", but it was just a shameless exploitation and objectification of young women. The women who danced on stage were even less dressed, with their dresses exposing their crotches with beige bikinis on to make them seem naked.
Also, these women were not allowed to put on warmer clothes when it turned cold as they had to stay "beautiful" for the duration of the event. Everyone else had put on jackets by this point and I'm not sure how women suddenly are no longer attractive if they dress more appropriately for the weather?
I'm sure some might argue the girls had a choice, but what kind of choice is it when your options are objectification, which increases the likelihood of ***ual harassment from inebriated male patrons, or not getting the job? Having been in that situation myself I know it's not really a choice, but rather outright manipulation of women, be "***y" or be unemployed.
Whoever the person on Corona's marketing team who thought this was a good idea should be ashamed and cannot say they had not considered the impact of their decision to exploit young women in this way.
Shame on you, Corona, that was not cool.
