This review is wrt Curro Hazeldean Primary School. This is not a school in the sense of educating learners. It is merely an institute for assessing learners. Work is handed out and only abstractly discussed in class with the onus passed onto the parent to educate the learner. There are more assessments and sport activities than learning days. Even kids not participating in sport are affected as their subject teachers often required to tend to sport related activities. Curro Holdings is a listed company, of which, the primary objective is to make profit. Having had learners at the school for 18 months, it became clearly evident that education is this school's lowest ranked priority and profit-making is the highest priority of this school. School fees are very high considering the poor level of education, many state schools will easily outperform this school at a fraction of the cost. Almost every act carried out by the school is ultimately done to make a profit. There is also a school levy which in my opinion is just profiteering, as almost every extramural activity or teachers birthday needs further donations which were meant to be sought from the levy. All students are even asked to bring canned food for the cleaning staff at year end which is absolutely ridiculous. An ample bonus from the exorbitant school fees should be allocated to the cleaning staff, if the school management care about their cleaning staff at all. Kids are even made to pity cleaning staff as my daughters were told. Teachers are really not driven to educate (except for a rare few), they tell learners more about their personal lives during lessons rather than teach actual lessons. Complaints to the Head Master and Head of Grade go acknowledged but unactioned and unresolved. One example is of a complaint about a Robotics teacher, it would seem he was employed as a Rugby coach and was forced into teaching Robotics as well, he has zero skill at academic teaching, zero connection with the learners, he shouts at the learners in class and is not at all approachable. The Head Master did nothing about these complaints....why?...because Sport is the heart of this group....why?....because sport drives investment and profit. While Sport is important, Academics should be the primary objective. If you want quality education for your child I suggest looking at schools outside Curro Holdings and non-profit education facilities.
