Durban Central (West Walk)
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the conduct of a staff member stationed at West Walk, Durban Central, on the morning of Saturday 18 April 2026
At approximately 08:38, while walking through the passage—which was already open at the time—I was confronted by a cleaning staff member employed by Tsepo Cleaning Services. There were several other individuals in the passage, including a group of women walking ahead of us with bags. As we proceeded past them, the staff member began shouting at me, accusing me of dirtying the floor. However, there was no spillage, mud, or any visible marks on the floor that could justify such an accusation.
In an effort to avoid conflict, I continued walking. Despite this, the staff member approached me directly and physically laid her hands on me. She spoke to me in isiZulu, saying, “Waze wangingcilisela bo,” although she was unable to point out any dirt or evidence when I asked her to clarify her accusation.
I questioned her as to why she was physically touching me, to which she responded rudely, stating “Uyalunga.” I then requested her name in order to report the incident, but she refused to provide it. Instead, she responded dismissively, telling me to go ahead and report her and “see what happens.”
This incident occurred in public, in front of other individuals and my husband, which left me feeling deeply disrespected and humiliated. Her behavior was unprofessional, aggressive, and entirely unacceptable. No staff member has the right to physically assault or intimidate a member of the public under any circumstances.
I am concerned that if this matter is not addressed, others may be subjected to similar treatment. I therefore request that this incident be thoroughly investigated, that the staff member be identified, and that appropriate disciplinary action be taken.
I would appreciate prompt feedback regarding the steps that will be taken to address this matter.
Yours faithfully, Nomonde
