My son, a young, post-graduate movie actor/director, recently entered the Short Film Competition run by Foolproof Entertainment in Port Elizabeth.
He was the only contestant in PE who met the requirements as briefed - the others either dropped out or were disqualified. Yet Foolproof refused to declare him the PE winner and pay him his prize money. Never mind the time, effort, materials, actors and costs involved. This is not sour g****s but more like breach of contract.
He questioned this and received a whole lot of incoherent communication, in which a whole of other factors and rules were introduced, basically ducking and diving. I contacted Foolproof Entertainment to appeal their decision with no response. It appears the competition was fraught with confusion and was extremely badly organised and managed.
Is this the image of the film industry in SA? If you are business looking to make a commercial, documentary or film, I'd say avoid Foolproof and I strongly urge aspiring writers, actors, filmmakers/directors to stay clear of these inept fools.
