After rushing our baby to them on Christmas day, entrusting them with having the empathy and compassion to care for our boy, after 5 days in their care, we were just hit with a R40k bill and no answers. I constantly had to phone and enquire as to his well-being as there was minimal communication. We were sent home with painkillers and no follow up plan and are now back to square one as he is just as ill as he was the day we took him in to Fourways. I called 3 times again today in the hope that someone would call back and provide a way forward, to no avail. Sadly they have proven themselves to clearly just be a business. Thankfully there are still other vets out there, that care for animals as a vocation and not just a business

Jewel was my 15.5 year old dog. My dog Jewel fell sick on Saturday the 13th September around mid-day. She had vomited early that morning and after that she seemed unstable on her feet. She appeared quite weak, and her gums appeared pale. We tried to feed her by ourselves to get her energy levels up but later decided to visit the vet. The Fourways Vet Hospital was the only facility that we were aware of that operated after ours and we arrived at their doors at 6pm on Saturday. The staff was polite and after a wait a nurse took Jewel away for general assessment. She was still very weak at the time. A little while later my wife and I were ushered in by Dr. Farai Munjer. Jewel was not in the rooms, but the doctor continued with his findings. He said that Jewel had a high fever but was otherwise fine. He advised that she had cateract and could be barely see that’s why she was stumbling around, other than that she was fine and that he would give her an injection for anti-nausea and an anti-inflammatory. At no point did we see the doctor with our dog. We were aware of Jewel’s diminished sight and hearing due to her age, but she was far from blind and a very active dog otherwise. The doctors last words were that she should be fine and if we were not happy, we could take her to our family vet on Monday. We brought Jewel home still weak expecting a turn around. Early Sunday morning I awoke to my wife crying in the lounge, cradling Jewel as her breathing had shortened dramatically and my wife expected the worse. We waited an hour before rushing her to out Vet in Olivedale. The Vet immediately said that her tummy was very bloated, and her gums were indeed very pale as I had noticed the day before. She took Jewel for an x-ray at no cost to ensure that her prognosis was correct. She was stunned that the doctors at Fourways Vet did not pick up the severity of her condition. She reported that Jewel has a mass that burst in her abdomen and the content of this has filled her abdominal cavity. She was in severe pain at that point there were no possible treatment. With a heavy heart my wife and I gave consent to the doctor to put her to sleep. I am utterly disgusted by the level of treatment at Fourways Vet Clinic. It is my belief that if the cause had been identified on Saturday they might have been treatment options available but die to the miss diagnosis by Dr. Farai Munjer we were forced to put our dog down. The lack of professionalism and ridiculous prices leave very little to desire of Fourways Vet Clinic. We have been left heart broken and angry that our dear pet could not be saved. It is my belief that if this was picked up on Saturday something could have been done to save my dog. I will be taking this up further with the South African Veterinary Council for further investigation as I have found numerous complaints online of a similar experience with other pet owners. I will also be taking this to the local media and social platforms.

Heartbroken and deeply disappointed We brought our healthy, happy puppy to Fourways Vet with the trust that they would care for her as we would. Tragically, that trust was misplaced. Not only did we lose our beloved puppy while she was in their care, but the experience left us feeling shattered and dismissed. What hurt even more was the clear lack of compassion we were shown during an incredibly traumatic moment. Instead of receiving empathy and answers, we were met with what felt like indifference—and an unsettling focus on payment over care. I am still trying to understand how our perfectly fine puppy could deteriorate so quickly, and why more urgency and attention wasn’t given to her wellbeing. Today, my family and I are left with grief, questions, and the heavy weight of knowing our little one didn’t get the gentle care she deserved. This is not something we can ever forget.

I cannot thank Fourways Veterinary Hospital & Specialist Referral Centre enough for the outstanding care they provided to my dog, Yogi, after he was hit by a car on 13th February. His injuries were severe—his leg was broken in three places, he had a deep tear wound, and he had lost some teeth due to the impact. Thanks to this incredible team, Yogi has made a remarkable recovery. From the start, Dr Jason Mory provided expert stabilisation and a clear plan of action. Dr Myra Marais offered exceptional care, calling me daily with updates over weekends. Dr Neels du Plessis, the specialist surgeon, devised a careful treatment plan for Yogi’s leg and wound, ensuring the best possible recovery. A huge thanks to Annelize Byleveld in Finance, who helped streamline the process with my pet insurance, and to the nursing personnel, including Carla De Lange, whose kindness and professionalism during bandage and splint changes made all the difference. After six weeks of dedicated care, Yogi is running around happily, with barely a scar from his ordeal. If you want a veterinary team that truly cares, I highly recommend Fourways Vet. Their expertise and compassion are second to none. Thank you to the entire team for saving Yogi!

Had to rush my puppy to the vet on Saturday evening when you walk in there is no assistance once the vet actually comes he doesn't touch our puppy first discussing payment and forms to fill in ( while dog is already unconscious and limp) they don't care about animals at all avoid at all costs as I know of 2 dogs that passed on Saturday as they would not assist at all, Dr. Farai Munjere is the vet in question

We took our two dogs to this veterinary clinic the day after the December long weekend. The larger dog was biting his paw for no reason that we could detect, and the smaller dog had an ear infection because of mosquito bites. Both also had to get their annual shots which they get in December. Both are pedigreed dogs, fully house trained and socialized. The reception service was poor. I was being done a favor when they spoke to me. The we couldn't be bothered that you are here attitude. We did have booked appointments for both dogs but had to wait for almost two hours for the second dog to have its appointment because one of the receptionists said that she phoned me but there was no reply so they took in another dog instead. I was sitting right there in front of her in the reception area. I therefore conclude that they do not keep tabs on who is waiting in that area. The dogs were seen by two different vets. The smaller dog was diagnosed with an ear infection caused by water in the ear. We do not have a pool. The dogs are washed by a grooming service and we therefore concluded that that was the only way water could have gotten into its ears. The dog was put on a dose of Me**** 16mg tablets, two per day (32mg per day), and an ear wash solution. It weighs 35 kg. The other dog was also diagnosed with an ear infection and was put on a dose of Me**** 16mg tablets, four tablets per day (64mg), for its ear infection and eating the paw. It weighs 40 kg. No pamphlet or drug information was included with the medication. We blindly accepted the medicine and diagnosis. The result was that the larger dog developed severe incontinence after the first 32mg of Me**** was administered. By day two, 16 hours after starting to take the prescribed dosage, the dog was like laying in its own pee and unable to move. We Googled Me**** to see what type of medication it was and its side effects. Me**** is prescribed by vets as antibiotics are prescribed for humans. Me**** is a cortisone like medicine or steroid and is used to alleviate allergic reactions, swelling, redness and itching. It is a dangerous drug with severe side effects and once on it the user has to be gradually weaned off it. The dosage is based on body weight. Renal failure is one of its side effects. We took the larger dog back to the veterinary hospital on 23 December, fearing renal failure as the animal was by then laying in his own pee which was just flooding out of him continuously. Instead of sending the vet who treated him the first time out, her name is Dr Bianca Ambrose, a nurse came to attend to us. The norse was very professional although I pressured her on the dosage and body weight of the animal during the first visit but was clearly under instructed to minimize the reputational damage to the practice. She recommended a blood test to detect if the dog had renal failure. This would cost me an additional R1 300 plus the consultation fee of R 1085, in addition to the vet bill of R5 200 - 00 for the 16 December which did not include shots for the larger dog because the vet said it would clash with the medicine she was prescribing him. I made it clear that I am a pensioner and the cost was unacceptable. We eventually agreed to the blood test and as a result I received an Excel created document with a chart on it that evidently stated that the animal did not have renal failure. At no stage was the dog looked at by either the nurse or a vet during this second visit, except for when his blood was drawn from his front leg. After being at the veterinary clinic for over two hours a vet came to speak to me and she told me the dog has to be weaned off the Me**** because stopping Me**** usage immediately will have fatal consequences for the animal. She explained the new dosage to me and I insisted that she write it down. The dosage was immediately halved, ending in a half tablet (8mg) for up to 02 January 2025. The smaller dog's dosage was not weaned off as we gave her the prescribed dosage and its tablets finished on that dosage of two per day. The bill for the second visit was R1300. We consulted another a vet at a different facility and used his Me**** recommendation for the dosage reduction and the dog came off it on Monday30 December. In addition to the vet bills we also paid about R1 500 for diapers because of the dog's condition which had become misery for all of us, and which was caused by the Me**** over dosage prescribed by the Fourways Veterinary Hospital. From the 30 December we started to give the animal Pegasus Renal 12c and today, 02 January his incontinence is almost gone. He is still chewing his paw. At first we had a problem weaning him off the diaper but by yesterday morning he was back to his house training routine. The past days since 17 December has been sheer hell. If I could write this review without giving the Fourways Veterinary Hospital a star, I would. The sole object of the place is to exploit pet owners financially whilst providing sub standard medical care to animals. You will always have to make more than one visit to this place if you're gullible enough to take your pet there for treatment. We have now learnt to ask for the pamphlet accompanying the medicine and to be fully aware of any side effects before we agree to give it to our animals. We have also learnt that we CAN refuse to use the medicine that facilities like the Fourways Veterinary Hospital add to your bill without asking for permission to do so or of informing you of the costs in advance.

So I went to this vet, rushed my dog there cuz she has a bad ear infection. Not only to find out we have to pay half upfront but have a medical aid and absolutely no compassion, my partner is crying and all the vet could do is ignore. And we got charged R1950.00 for a consultation and an injection. Yes granted it was late at night… but during the visit he says it all would be R 25k !!! For all the work ups and still proceeded to give her injection for her nausea but she wasn't throwing up!!! the receptionist was rude we told them we have medical aid… she said you needed to ask the doctor… which we did but then when I asked the receptionist we got attitude… I proceeded to say thank you have a good evening and I was ignored !!! It cost nothing to be nice. Please all go to my personal friend vet marli from cradle vet bird and animal hospital, she is so compassionate and what wonderful service yes she’s not a specialist but her love for our cat that passed away was beautiful she has the kindest heart.
