A clear review of the school

This is a review from a parent whom has been with the school for 5 years.

The school was a wonderful school and generations had just taken over from Reddam house Somerset west all or rather majority of the teachers from reddam house continued with Generations, that year, the teachers was hands on there were so many extra mural offerings our kids were so happy, that was grade R then from grade one teachers started leaving as well as students there were so many changes in place which was very unsettling.

They are suppose to be a Montessori school but you will hear that there are class Reps/leaders and it becomes a question of how is that possible in a Montessori school. You would expect class reps and prefects from a traditional school.

Academically for me I feel like there is so much slack and so many parents are facing this challenge. Sport there is no inclusion at all, they dont have strong sports team, if you are looking for a school that is very strong in sports there are many you would try but I would not recommend generations. Numbers don’t lie if they dispute this then ask for a track record of their sports teams participation and performance records. Most students whom are doing well have an outside sports offering or coaching that they attend.

If you want the perks of a private school with state of the art offerings, ask around it’s my fifth year now at the school and I am observing options, in my sons class 4kids have left for home schooling and many have left through out the years.

The wellness offerings are also something that is good on paper it has not always been like that but the changes happening at the school are not good at all.

Even during sport our kids were observed and parents were given feedback on their performances but of late it’s a star focused environment, not very inclusive at all.

Recently my son came back with complaints at how it’s not fair that they are being told not to speak their African language (isiXhosa) with their friends, while other languages are being spoken, I am very disappointed by that because that school offers an international curriculum so it should be inclusive of all languages from all walks of life, if a teacher does not understand a students home language then they should show interest in learning it. English is used in class for academics but my son can use his home language to speak to his peers.

We are sending them to school for good education not for an identity crisis.

Also expect to have about two to three class teacher changes in a year I don’t know how many teachers have been leaving the school. This year alone my son is already on his second teacher. I have written an email to the school but the response is as expected on “our school is committed to abc your concerns are valid abc “ expect to go through that journey but no real accountability and changes but just polished email responses of their schools non existent commitment.

The worst happened this year as well which I had a meeting with the head of the school and we sat down and talked it out.

Also had to tell my son to fight back because of a non existent disciplinary procedure against bullying and that has made life more easy for me. As he has not came back home crying because of bullying. There was an incident where he was bul**** by a student and he punched the student l, the student fainted from the punch but I kid you not he has not been bul**** since, nothing the school did to sort out the bullying matter but rather that he had to stand up for himself and fight.

It’s a beautiful school with great infrastructure but there’s a lot a parent should look into don’t be convinced by mere PR and pamphlets.
