Our standby generator started acting up by not running smooth. I got a quote from Genpower PTA west of R530.00 to have it serviced. They said I should bring it in (Friday) and they will strip the carburetor and let it soak for 2 days to clean. When I phoned on (Monday) to get an update, they said that they have not yet started with my generator. Three hours later they phoned me and said that they had soaked the parts over the weekend and it is so clogged up, they will have to replace the whole carburetor, and apparently the coil is malfunctioning as well, and needs to be replaced, bringing the quote to R4500.00 to continue. I explained to the salesman how can you soak parts for 2 days if no work was done at all on the machine? Knowing this cannot be true, I phoned Genpower PTA west back to speak to the original salesperson and ask him again if they worked on my machine? Now he clearly did not know what to say. I told him this is not acceptable, and that I am on my way to collect the generator, as this is absurd. On collection of the generator you could see that they never even touched the machine, as the carburetor was still full of dust, and the nuts holding the carburetor was untouched. I took the generator to our shop and opened the carburetor myself, the jet was clogged with dirt. I rinsed the parts, blew it clean with compressed air, and reinstalled the carburetor. It fired right up with the first pull and runs like it should. It cost me nothing, they could have earned their original R530.00 by just being honest. Job no: 30059
