I am honestly surprised that an establishment with so much potential continues to operate at what feels like a three star standard. My recent visit to The Palms at Glenburn Lodge was disappointing from start to finish. On arrival, there was no drinks menu available, and our waiter seemed unsure about what the bar actually offered. After eventually ordering a simple snack basket, we waited more than 45 minutes for basic finger food. What made the experience even more frustrating was being given inaccurate wait times, which left us feeling misled rather than informed. When the food finally arrived, it fell well below expectations. The sausages were undercooked and watery, basic condiments like salt and pepper were not readily available, and the overall service felt disorganised. It was clear that the staff were trying their best, but equally clear that they have not been given the training or support needed to deliver a proper hospitality experience. This does not feel like a people problem. It feels like a management and training gap. Unfortunately, we had already committed to staying overnight and were unable to find alternative accommodation at such short notice. I am hopeful that dinner at the restaurant this evening will redeem the experience, but based on what we encountered this afternoon, I cannot currently recommend Glenburn Lodge. It is especially disappointing because the location near Johannesburg is beautiful and holds incredible promise. With stronger management oversight, proper staff training, and more attention to guest experience, this venue could truly live up to its potential.
