I am posting this as a public warning.
I downloaded the app CashDrama through the Google Play Store. In my experience, this app appears to use a deeply misleading reward system to keep people watching videos and ads while consuming large amounts of mobile data.
At the beginning, it gives the impression that cash-out is realistic and achievable. But as you get closer to the target, the goalposts shift. The reward value drops to almost nothing, new conditions appear, and extra ad-watching requirements are suddenly introduced only when you are supposed to be able to claim. In my opinion, that is deceptive by design.
This is not a minor irritation. It causes real financial harm, especially in South Africa where data is expensive and many people cannot afford to waste money. In my case, I have lost roughly R3,500 in data in relation to this app.
What makes this worse is that this app is not hidden away somewhere obscure. It is on Google Play and shows 10M+ downloads. That means this is potentially affecting a massive number of people. If even a fraction of users suffered similar losses, the consumer harm could run into the billions of rand.
Google cannot simply wash its hands of this. This app was distributed through the Google Play Store. Google hosts the marketplace, approves listings, enforces policies, and presents Play as a safer environment for users. When an app appears to operate through shifting payout mechanics and misleading inducements, Google has a duty to act.
I have already escalated this matter. I have:
engaged Google support directly; demanded escalation to the CEO’s office; raised the issue with Nicole at Google Chat support; emailed the developer at kouchaamar48@gmail.com ; escalated to press@google.com ; escalated to directors@abc.xyz .
I am demanding:
urgent investigation of this app; preservation of all complaint and approval records; substantive feedback from Google’s senior leadership; and accountability for the loss caused.
My warning to the public is simple: Do not trust this app. Do not waste your data. Do not believe that the payout system is straightforward. In my experience, it appears designed to keep moving the target while users keep paying with their time, their attention, and their mobile data.
Google must decide whether it wants to be seen as a platform that protects consumers, or a platform that allows this kind of conduct to continue at scale.
