A woman sought legal assistance from Heyns & Partners, then based in Vasco Blvd, Bellville 8 years ago when her husband left her and their 2 kids, then 16 and 13 respectfully, for another woman. What should have been a straight forward divorce turned out to be a three-year-long struggle between Seugnet from Heyns & Partners and the husband's Mickey Mouse Attorney firm Mc Donald’s in Cape Town. Heyns & Partners failed terribly to settle on simple things like pension funds, fridges and couches, costing the poor woman tens of thousands of rands while the husband didn't need to pay maintenance for the entire almost 3year period it took Heyns & Partners to finally settle. The woman had to maintain the entire household with their two kids for three years on a single salary while her husband didn’t contribute a cent, all because Heyns & Partners where plainly unprofessionally unable in settling a very straight forward divorce. After the divorce and settlement were finalized the ex-husband didn't honor his obligations towards the settlement in regards to maintenance, school fees, armed response bills, and the municipal bills, to mention only a few clauses. The ex-husband constantly nagged the woman to agree to sell the duly owned property she and the kids had staying right in for as long as the last child isn’t self-sufficient, according to the settlement. Obviously she couldn't agree to sell as she needed a roof over her and her children's heads, and the maintenance he paid poorly and unscheduled wasn't nearly enough to cover a bond or rental if she did. In 2017 the younger child went to university but stopped her studies at the end of the same year as she realized she made a wrong choice of study. During 2018 the child stayed at home to decide on a new study route, and by mid-2018 she enrolled in a new course which started in January 2019. She looked after 2 pre-school boys during 2018 in order to earn just enough to cover her university costs for the 2017 course which she didn't complete. When the ex-husband learned of his younger daughter earning money for looking after the two boys he stopped all obligations towards their settlement which he hasn't already disregarded. He then claimed the last child is now self-sufficient – She earned R3 800 per month looking after the 2 pre-school boys while she waited for her new co**** to start in 2019, paying off her loan of 2017, and thus helping her mother in that way, instead of sitting at home doing nothing. The ex-husband, convinced that the younger child is now self-sufficient, insisted that the property now needs to be sold, according to the settlement. The woman went back to Seugnet at Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville in 2018 with the clear instructions to convince the ex-husband that the child is still studying, that she merely took a year study leave in order to make up her mind what co**** to pursue. Seugnet from Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville indicated clearly that this would be very straight forward and she made no mention at all that there would be costs involved. She didn’t give the woman a quote, nor forwarded any invoices nor statement while she worked the case. The woman thought that Seugnet is doing this very straightforward procedure on a pro-bono basis as a consequence to the divorce case she did. Again Seugnet from Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville failed to convince the ex-husband’s Mickey Mouse Attorney firm that the child is not self-sufficient, and the case dragged out for another year and a half, again with the ex-husband not paying any maintenance, nor reaction unit costs, nor Municipality bills, resulting in the water being cut off on the property after the bill reached R19 000 in dept. The woman had to borrow R19 000 from her dad in order for her and their children to have water on the property. Eventually the woman was forced to seek help from another attorney firm after some months of not hearing from Seugnet. She enquired with Heyns & Perners, only to learn that Seugnet has left the firm, leaving the case high and dry and not informing the woman that she has left. No-one at Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville proceeded with the case. The woman was successful with the new Attorney firm and a settlement was reached with the ex-husband whereas the property would be sold and all proceeds will be divided 50/50, as well as all the school fees, maintenance, water bills, reaction unit costs and many other obligations that was neglected by the ex-husband would be subtracted from his 50% and paid over to the woman upon transfer. It was in fact a straight forward case for the new firm as they managed very easily to convince the courts that the younger child has never been self-sufficient, and a ruling was made, something Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville failed to do. Then came the shock! Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville served the woman with a bill of over R20 000, almost two years later. This after the woman had never received a quote, nor any monthly invoices, nor any statements. The woman couldn’t make payment and subsequently got served with court procedures. She managed to borrow money again in order to settle this ridiculous bill from Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville after failing to come to a down payment agreement with them. To sum it up: Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville were unprofessional in settling the divorce timeously in the first place, dragging a very straight forward case out for years, costing the woman tens of thousands of rand in attorney fees and unpaid maintenance and other costs as the husband didn’t contribute during the years of Heyns & Partners’s poor attempt to settle a very easy divorce. Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd, Bellville then, almost 7 years later, failed horribly to convince the ex-husband that their younger child was never self-sufficient in the year she took care of 2 pre-school boys while waiting for her new course to start, helping her mother by paying of her failed year of studies. Then, after all this, Lizette at Heyns & Partners in Vasco Blvd presented the woman with a bill of almost R20 000, after no monthly invoices or statements were issued, and almost two years after their failed attempt to help the woman, and went as far as pursued court procedures. My point to all is that Heyns & Partners, formally from Vasco Blvd, Bellville, now situated in Panorama just below the Panorama Medi Clinic, has been extremely unprofessional and shows no mercy for woman who has been abused by their husbands, even after they fail to be successful in their cases.
I therefore suggest that whoever reads this review regarding Heyns & Partners Panorama warn friends, family and colleagues not to use them.
