High Tech Turbo is a disaster waiting to fleece you. They slapped me with a jaw-dropping R20K bill to “fix” a flap on my BMW’s turbo wastegate, but good luck getting an invoice or any breakdown of the so-called work to justify that insane cost. They held my car hostage, barking threats like “pay the deposit now or come yank your car out immediately” with zero professionalism. Abusive, evasive, and downright shady, they couldn’t explain why the FEM, (which they first claimed was “not working”) magically became “fine” after I questioned them. Sketchy doesn’t even cover it. Confusion and mismanagement run rampant here, and whatever they did to my turbo sure as hell wasn’t worth R20K. Now I’m forced to drag the Ombudsman into this mess to claw back my money. Save yourself the headache—avoid High Tech Turbo like the plague, or proceed with extreme caution if you’re desperate. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Below is my response to their feedback
High Tech Turbo’s response misrepresents the facts and sidesteps accountability. Their initial quote which I can provide, itemized R19,000 plus worth of work 80% of which was either unnecessary or not performed. Total Invoice value was R28K. The final repair was an engineering of the wastegate flap costing R1,850, yet they retained my full R19,000 deposit, refusing to issue a revised quote / invoice reflecting the actual work. This contradicts their claim of completing the job “under budget,” as the budget was inflated with irrelevant tasks like the FEM unit replacement (quoted at R9,850), which they later admitted was functional after my expert challenged their diagnosis.
The vehicle was operational when dropped off, and the prior turbo repair by another provider was sufficient, High Tech Turbo’s additional work was redundant and overpriced. Their insistence on an immediate 70% deposit, under threat of withholding my car, forced my compliance, NOT agreement to their terms. I believe according to my expert that a refund of ca. R15,000 is due to me as there is no evidence justifying the high cost of the work which exposes their lack of transparency and integrity.
I respectfully request a refund of R15,000 by March 18, 2025, or I will no choice but to escalate this to the Ombudsman and pursue legal action, including HTT court costs. High Tech Turbo’s attempt to discredit me fails against the evidence of an inflated invoice, an unnecessary FEM claim retracted under scrutiny, and their refusal to document the actual work performed.
