I am a tour guide and I brought my client to the gardens. My client went into the gardens and said that I could wait in the vehicle for her. I do this most of the time waiting for my client in the vehicle while they are inside. The security approached me and said that I am not allowed to sit in the vehicle but the bus drivers can. They want us to wait on a bench for 2-3 hours for our clients or go right outside the gardens and wait. I find that it is very unfair that the bus drivers can sit in there busses but us tour operators must sit like kids on a bench or leave the premises. This is not on because it is bad for our visitors and to make them feel safe. This is very disrespectful and unfair. What goes for one should go for everybody.

Decided to be a tourist in my own town today and I was bitterly disappointed to see what the condition Kirstenbosch gardens Entrance area looked like.Filthy Dirty and under maintained. Toilets need a complete revamp. There is so much feet and money going through there but a lack of maintenence. We as Cape Town thrive from tourism.

I recently visited Kirstenbosch Gardens in March 2024 and was bitterly disappointed by the poor maintenance of the gardens. - flowers beds are unkempt especially in the Upper Gardens near the Rycroft Gate. -pathways are unswept and grass is growing between paving bricks, litter was also present -the forest pathways have not been looked after either. The wooden planks demarking pathways are rotting and in some places just moved to the side with metal spikes still in place. Staff in restaurant and tearoom also remarked that business was down except for Tuesdays when entry was free for pensioners and they could afford to come. It was really sad, I hope that this National treasure will not be allowed to go to ruin.

Do not ever go there! Bad food and bad and expensive service and bad attitude. They do not care, because they do not have to look for clients. The "tourist trap" delivers them on their doorstep. If there was a minus star, they would have been awarded it. They almost killed me with a hamburger that gave me severe food poisoning, leaving me incapable for close to 24 hours under heavy medication, costing me almost R1000.00 for a R90.00 burger that tasted like the meat of some funny animal. (It was edible at the time) albeit tasting slightly strange, but from two hours later until 24 hours later, I was in a daze. The first few hours I could not speak and just sat, so I went to bed. I woke up the next morning with the worst possible symptoms, at 04H00 and from thereon I prayed that I would rather die. And so it would have been, had the medics not intervened.

DO NOT pre-buy any Kirstenbosch Gardens tickets except perhaps on the day at the gate. Definitely don’t purchase these tickets via Webtickets. My friend bought 9 tickets for a surprise birthday picnic for me and we all headed to Kirstenbosch Gardens last weekend 28/1 and it was raining 🌧 hard there (weather apps had not seen this coming). Kirstenbosch assured us then and there that we could return this weekend to redeem them. However, after trying to get through to both Webtickets and Kirstenbosch all week, we were eventually told that you can ONLY redeem within a week from the purchase date (she obviously bought the tickets prior to my birthday)! Meaning that Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens refuse to honour their tickets! That’s R810 down the drain and wasted. #DISGUSTED

Friendly staff and reasonably priced. Always great to stroll through the rows of plants learning new things and picking out new favorites for our garden. They also sell great top soil and cute ornaments for the garden.
