My wife and I were booked into chalet 11 at Mpila camp from the 11 to the 16 June but owing to the following problems we left on the 15 June as we could not stand the situation any further
Before I get more into the problems I must state that we have been to Mpila or Hilltops Camps at least once a year for the last 20 years and are well aware of the camps. At Mpila we normally stay in the tents, normally tent number 29 but on this occasion we were warned to stay away from the tents as they had been totally overrun by ******s. We therefore stayed in chalet number 11.
The problems are.
1. ******s. Whilst still unpacking the vehicle we were totally overrun by ******s. One ****** tried to tear a packet of bread roles from my wife and when she resisted the ****** bearded his teeth at her. When I tried to kick the ****** he bit my boot, luckily I had think boots on and the bite did not get through the boot to my skin. The whole time we were there we were not able to sit outside the chalet, until after about 5pm, and eat without being attacked by ******s. We were actually prisoners of very aggressive ******s. 2. Even inside the chalet we still had problems with ******s. As you probably know the chalets have recently been renovated which sounds nice but the old wooden windows with strong wooden blinds have been replaced with aluminium windows with no blinds. The result of this is keeping the windows shut all the time. This is not pleasant in the winter as it was quite hot and will be unbearable in summer. In addition in summer there will be no way to keep the mosquitoes or other insects out. The main door, which is still wood and has quite a strong screen door is not able to be locked from the inside. The ******s have found a way of opening the screen door and on more than one occasion broke into the chalet whilst my wife was cooking and stole fruit and vegetables. We know that on the same night neighbours on both sides of us were also broken into by ******s and food ******. What makes it worse is that these ******s are not scared and are actually very aggressive. We spoke to the ****s and the office and they all admitted that the ******s have become a huge problem and they are inundated by complaints. 3. As usual when we are at Mpila we drive over to Hilltops and have coffee and something to eat on the beautiful terrace. When we arrived we noticed that there was no one on the terrace and it soon became obvious that ******s were the problem. We moved to the dining room and found ******s there as well as in the bar area, reception and we believe even the kitchen. Again all the staff we spoke to admitted that the ******s were a huge problem except one person by the main reception who just stated how could we moan as the ******s were there first. I asked him if the ******s paid to stay there and it was the visitors that paid his salary. 4. The chalets are advertised with TV but the TV’s did not work. When I complained at reception I was told that the DSTV subscription fees had not been paid and that none of the TV’s worked. I also noticed that all the TV’s were Samsung, a very expensive make, but without the subscription being paid absolutely useless, another example of fruitless and wasteful expenditure. 5. One morning my wife was having a shower when the water suddenly went cold. I went to reception to complain and was told that most of the chalets were having the same problems as the gas had run out. Surely the gas should be checked and this not allowed to happen . In addition all the geysers are gas and every geyser is marked “ for outdoor use only”. There was always a very strong smell of gas in the bathroom but luckily the bathroom window was the old type with a strong blind that could be left open. I am sure you are aware that visitors in the berg have already died from gas poisoning. • In conclusion you are losing many visitors because of the ******s and strict action needs to be taken. The ******s are intimidating the guests and strong action needs to be taken, this could be the form of trapping and moving , culling or employing staff with shambucks to chase the ******s away. I have never come across such
