I am a member and I asked them to register my grandchild from medical aid. They said I should do legal guardianship to get her in. I did. I sent all the documents they requested. Then I followed up almost every day. They said it was still in the process. Then I called them today and they said it was rejected on 4 May 2026 without any reason. But they didn't inform me that the child is more than 30 days old and is not registered.

Polmed has completely failed my father when it comes to his hernia operation. His doctor recommended a permanent procedure as the correct, long-term solution. Polmed refused to cover it and instead insisted on paying only for a temporary option. When we asked for a valid reason for declining the doctor’s recommendation, Polmed didn’t bother giving one. After emphasizing the excruciating pain the patient has been complaining about, there seems to be no acknowledgement of the severity of this procedure. Instead, they sent us a quote for the procedure they prefer. This is unacceptable. It shows that Polmed is more concerned about saving money than about patients’ health and well-being. We pay monthly contributions expecting proper medical cover, not shortcuts and cost-cutting at the expense of someone’s quality of life. If Polmed cannot respect medical expertise and put patients first, then what exactly are we paying for?

Hello Peter. I would like you to assist me with my medical aid Polmed. I am currently experiencing dental issues and I'm now going on the second month, my Dentist had requested that I get crowns as they're the best solution for my current problem. However Polmed has declined my request for getting crowns because they said " loss of tooth structure is not enough " . I've been going back and forth with them they don't want to tell me who assessed the X-rays and how they measured and concluded that not enough is a valid reason. I do have enough funds for me do get any dental treatment I need , I'm just not understanding why they're refusing to release those funds ,because they will not be added to my dental funds for 2026. I have been in excruciating pain for a month and a half to a point whereby my left side is starting to swell up because I can only use one side to chew. My life has been hell. I need to know who's assessing my case and why they're refusing to release those funds ,because a text book case can never be compared to a real life case, people are not the same therefore our cases will not be the same. I'm curious to know if they're not de*****ing us as members and using our funds for they're personal use because they're so addement on not wanting to realise those funds for my crowns.

My goddaughter Elizabeth Buys was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer recently. She is a member of Polmed since birth. Recently the med aid stated that a dependant may remain on the scheme till age 30, but a special written concession was made in order for her to remain a member as a dependant of her father till 8 Nov 2025, when she turns 34. However her condition worsened recently and her cancer spread rapidly to various organs. She currently has an infection count of 400+, and PMB is relevant. Polmed suddenly, on 25th June 2025, informed her that the med benefits/her membership will be suspended with effect 31st July 2025. She needs URGENT medical care which involves hospitalization. Despite urgent appeals and motivation from the treating doctors, Polmed still refuses to extend her membership according to the concessionary agreement! I find this ********.

Polmed, what a disappointment. Your refund analysis is unacceptable From a referral from the dentist to the maxiofacialist to assess our daughter's severe wisdom teeth impactations. Followed the correct process as always from referral to appointment. We had to pay R1680 up-front with panoramic xrays, assured we can claim this back from our Marine plan with no question. We submitted claim and was informed we will only receive R392.50 in a refund. This is ludicrous. We should at least be paid out scheme rates. This doesn't even cover a quarter of what was paid upfront. A copayment of the removal surgery is just as much as the initial outlay we have to pay and we are informed of this ridiculous refund amount. Find a benefit that this can be paid out of, take care of your members who pay our contributions without question each month. Extremely disappointed in the medical aid scheme I always speak so highly of.
