So after a decade or more having quit eating Feta cheese because of the inconsistency of quality I decided a few weeks ago to try it once again in the hope and expectation that there has been an improvement. I began with a pnp no name brand and it was pleasant ... I then bought a large tub of Meze (plain)n Feta Cheese (gross weigh 700 gms) at Checkers - Blubird centre and it was extremely delicious beyond words. My faith in the product was restored. I then purchased a second tub of Meze Feta Cheese - this time at Checkers Emmarentia (same spec's) I got home and opened the tub with that enthusiasm one gets before a good meal only to find with absolute dismay as I was reminded of the reason I had quit eating Feta Cheese in the first place!! This tub is old stock which came out of a freezer. All the manufacturers do this and it led me to the point of outright refusal to purchase and use it ever again. I even stopped ordering Greek Salad in restaurants. Bad tastes are like bad smells. You never forget them. It is not inexpensive either at approximately R50 per 750 gm tub. I tried using it for cooking instead and it is simply revolting. What a waste of time and money and an insult to customers to have such deceptively inconsistent quality of produce on the shelves of trusted grocers. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I had to say something about this. I did not do so before but it is abysmal that we are expected to pay good money for substandard quality of anything at all least of all FOOD!!! Very very disappointed and a lot of annoyance at this experience that I cannot get it out of my mind. Perhaps this will help me erase the memories as writing a review should. D ALLEN
