It saddens me to have to post such a post for an all time family favorite take-out. Since I was a young child, we've always looked forward to the occasion of getting "Michaels Chinese food" from the original Michael's in Lorraine, Port Elizabeth. It was always the most delicious food, namely the Shanghai Steak, Prawn or Chicken fried rice, Egg Foo Yong, and chicken or vegetable chow mein, but our all time favorite was the Sweet and Sour pork. I am now in my 30's with my own children, and still feeling the same ol' cravings for our all time favorite, we decided to get Michael's yesterday... For the first time ever, I can say that it was very unpleasant and not at all enjoyable. The meal was a disgrace, knowing what standard Michael's once had.... The Shanghai steak tasted like it was a watery gravy with tough steak, the sweet and sour pork was basically just batter with very little portions of meat, the chow mein was terrible! The Chow mein noodles tasted like cheap two minute noodles with no spice or salt and raw cabbage, that's it!! I'm extremely disappointed in this as Michael's Chinese has ALWAYS been an all time favorite, something one craves for... After 20 + years of loyal support, I feel like I don't think I'll be going back for quite some time, if ever after that experience
