Serious Security Failure, No CCTV, Suspected Inside Involvement & Zero Accountability If you value your family’s safety and your belongings, think twice before staying at Montagu Springs. What was meant to be a relaxing family weekend turned into a nightmare due to what I can only describe as gross negligence, *********** security, and extremely poor management. On Saturday, 10 January 2026 at around 8:00 pm, we left our villa for roughly an hour to visit the warm pools. Before leaving, the chalet was locked and the main bedroom door was closed. When we returned, we discovered that the main bedroom had been broken into, with access gained through the ensuite toilet window, and someone had clearly entered the room. This was not carelessness; this was a deliberate ******** entry into a secured unit. Guests should be able to trust that their belongings are safe inside a locked chalet. Clearly, that is not the case here. It then became even more concerning when we were told, very conveniently, that the 24-hour CCTV system “was not working”, despite CCTV surveillance being advertised in their brochures. The response from security was shocking. The staff were clueless, untrained, and completely unprepared. No urgency, no process, no assistance. We were left to deal with the situation ourselves and waited hours for SAPS, who could only issue a case number. We were also told incidents like this are “common,” which is extremely alarming. After checking out on Sunday 11th and returning home to Cape Town, one of the ****** phones was switched on and I was able to track it in real time. I immediately notified SAPS. The Sergeant on duty confirmed the tracked location was in very close proximity to a staff members residences linked to the resort. This raises extremely serious concerns and strongly suggests the possibility of inside involvement. Management’s behaviour has been just as unacceptable: The Managing Director only responds when repeatedly prompted Poor communication No accountability or urgency No proper follow-up Their insurance representative then dismissed our claim, hiding behind an indemnity form signed at check-in, as if that somehow excuses ********s forcibly entering a locked chalet and *****ing guests’ possessions. I repeatedly requested: An incident report. A copy of the indemnity form. To date, nothing has been provided. Between the failed CCTV, weak security measures, *********** staff, suspected internal links, and management’s dismissive attitude, it is clear that guest safety is not a priority at this resort. Our family holiday was ruined, we suffered financial losses, and we were treated like an inconvenience rather than victims. I strongly caution anyone considering staying at Montagu Springs, you are taking a serious risk with your belongings. Absolutely unacceptable.
