23 Apr 2026, 12:56Dear Mr Moodley,
Thank you for your further comments. We do understand your concerns regarding cost transparency and appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. As mentioned previously, the scan was performed following an after-hours referral from the Emergency Department, based on the treating doctor’s clinical assessment at the time.
In these situations, our role is to carry out the requested investigation without delay, and we do not determine the urgency of the scan ourselves.
With regard to costs, we acknowledge your point. In an emergency, after-hours environment, it is unfortunately not always possible to provide an accurate upfront estimate, as costs can vary depending on clinical requirements and individual medical aid benefits.
Our process is therefore to obtain consent and acknowledgment of potential personal liability, which is standard practice.
We would also like to highlight that we have made every effort to assist you throughout this process.
This has included engaging with your medical aid on your behalf, assisting with a PMB review, verifying clinical coding, liaising with the Emergency Unit, and accommodating a payment arrangement at your request.
While the outcome remains unchanged, your feedback regarding clearer communication around potential costs is noted and will be reviewed internally.
Best regards,
