After many years of only going to Ster-Kinekor because of Vitality (which I don’t have anymore) and because it was the closest, I went to Canal Walk today and tried Nu Metro for the first time in a very long time. I watched Greenland in a VIP cinema, and I’ve realised there’s no going back. This is what the movie experience should be.
The recliner chairs were big, comfy, and had proper foot lifts, so I could actually relax for the whole movie. No being annoyed by people squeezing past me, no squeaky chairs, and no sitting there uncomfortable with my feet not reaching the floor. It just felt premium and peaceful.
Yes, at first I thought the price was “holy ****,” but now I fully understand it. I’d pay it again in an instant because the experience feels worth it, especially being able to have a beer while watching the movie.
Unfortunately I only found out afterwards that paying with my Nedbank card would have given me 50% off, but even at full price it was still money well spent.
Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever watch a normal general screening again. If it’s not VIP, Xtreme, or 4DX (which I have to try next), it just won’t have that exciting, proper movie experience anymore.
