We would not recommend Penguin Pools in Pretoria to anyone. We entered into a contract with Hanno at the beginning of November. In the middle of January, we were forced to take legal action against penguin pools due to their absolute disgusting lack of workmanship and service delivery. During this two-and-a-half-month period, their team were at our house 3 times, each time they arrived at 11am and left at 4pm. They left the working site in such a condition that it was a hazard to my family. A big hole in the ground with rusted steel rods sticking out. Hanno always has excuses as to why they can’t complete the job. When I phoned Penguin Pools head office in Pretoria I was put in contact with Derick, assuming he is the man in charge, he blatantly told me, that this situation is not his problem. Our contract is directly with Hanno and not Penguin Pools, but this is a complete lie. We found Hanno on penguin pools Facebook page, his number is on their website, and their logo is on our contract. Without any help from Derick, and excuses after excuses from Hanno, we decided to go see our lawyer to legally cancel the contract with Penguin Pools and try to get back some of the huge deposit we had to pay. When I leave a comment on their Facebook page to warn people about their poor lack of service, the comment gets removed. I cannot believe that this is the type of service a company provides. We chose Penguin Pools because we did not want to have issues like these, but it was the worst mistake to trust them with this project. We are currently still busy with legal action against them and hopefully we can win this matter. I would warn each and everyone to think very carefully before entering into a contact with them.

In August 2025, we contracted with Penguin Pools to install a fiberglass pool. What was promised and what was delivered were two very different things. Hanno, the project manager, quoted the job and promised full oversight. After we paid the deposit and the shell arrived, he disappeared. There was no inspection, quality control, or follow-up—just repeated payment demands, often with shifting interpretations of the contract. When I referenced the actual agreement, the explanations kept changing. Ultimately, all payments were made under protest to avoid delays. I sent a formal email in September citing voids in the pool steps; Hanno rep**** that it needed time to settle. In December, another detailed email noted a range of defects. It went unanswered. All follow-ups were ignored. Issues include voids in the steps and the deep end, which sound hollow when tapped, and a section that flexes. Months after being told the pool needs to settle, there’s no change. The coping-to-pool joint was filled poorly with silicone, leaving gaps and holes. Since they were backfilled with river sand, water entering these gaps now poses structural risks. The concrete around the weir and light box was mixed with river sand rather than aggregate; it has cracked badly. The weir was installed at an angle, with exposed, unsealed gaps. The light box sits raised above its base and the surrounding pavers. Cement between most pavers has deep cracks, some of which extend down the wall. Other customer reviews show a clear pattern: responsive service until payment, then quality issues and silence. Positive reviews mention different installers and appear related to another company. I have offered site access for inspection, indicated I can provide photographic evidence of the defects, and requested a written plan with timeframes for repairs. They have not asked for the photos, proposed an inspection, or responded at all. If you are considering Penguin Pools, be aware that post-payment service and quality control appear to be optional rather than guaranteed.

Never use them after only 5 months my new pool started yellow flaking on the surfaces. They catch you with their warranty that says staining not under warranty. Numerous people had complaints about this in the past.

I wish to formally express my extreme dissatisfaction with the level of service we have received from Hanno at Penguin Pools Pretoria. Although the company already has numerous negative reviews, I feel it is necessary to add our experience due to the unacceptable service we have endured. Communication was adequate only until the first deposit was paid. Thereafter, the quality of service and responsiveness deteriorated significantly. We were required to follow up on a daily basis to obtain any information regarding progress or completion of the work. At one point, the situation escalated to such an extent that we indicated that, should the service not be completed, the swimming pool would need to be removed. Each day, we were left waiting until approximately after 10:00 to be informed whether the team would arrive on-site. As working individuals, this lack of communication, planning, and cer*****y was both unreasonable and highly disruptive, as we were expected to remain at home without the ability to plan work or personal commitments. It became evident that there was no proper planning or scheduling in place, as decisions regarding attendance and work were made only on the morning of the intended workday. As a result, completion of our swimming pool was delayed by at least one week due to poor daily planning and bad weather conditions. This delay has had further consequences, including preventing the timely installation of a swimming net. With the festive season approaching and many businesses closing, this delay is especially concerning, particularly as we have small children and safety is a priority. Despite repeated follow-ups and appeals to Hanno to treat the matter with urgency, our concerns were clearly not taken seriously. The lack of accountability, customer care, and professionalism has been extremely disappointing. From the outset, the service was unprofessional. During the excavation process, workers discarded empty soda bottles and cans into the hole and left them there. At no stage was there any supervision by a site manager, and workers frequently arrived on-site without clarity on the planning or scope of work. In addition, we are now facing further financial expenses to correct the electrical connection from the swimming pool to our home’s DB board. We initially enquired whether the power supply could be connected from the borehole electricity box; however, after reconsideration, we clearly communicated our decision not to proceed in this manner. We informed both the electrician and the company how the power supply should be installed, yet our instructions were ignored, and work proceeded against our explicit request. In hindsight, we regret not reviewing customer feedback on Google and Hello Peter before engaging Penguin Pools Pretoria. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend their services to anyone.
