We had booked at Back 'O The Moon for our Year End dinner before going to see a show at the Lyric. Since the restaurant only opens at 18h00 I arranged with Mercy and the Manager that our starters be served at 18h15 and our mains at 18h45 in order for us to have enough time to enjoy our meal and make it to the Lyric with time to spare for us to order some drinks and take our seats. After various discussions with Mercy throughout the day, I emailed our order at or about 14h56. As a result of traffic, we were approximately 15 minutes late, however I phoned and advised Present (since Mercy was no longer on duty) and upon arrival I confirmed with the waiter that we must nevertheless stick to the schedule since we have to be in time for the show. He confirmed that is perfect since the kitchen has our orders and is aware of the times. It took forever to receive our drinks, we only received our starters shortly before 19h00 and never actually received our mains. I started reminding the waiter about our mains from about 19h10 and he assured that they are busy with it in the kitchen. At about 19h25 we had still not received our mains and I asked Present what was going on. At 19h40 I called the Manager and said to cancel our order as it was now almost an hour after we requested the mains to be served. There would never be enough time for us to finish our meals and be in time for the show. The restaurant was not busy at all, we were only 8 people and I had stayed in contact with the restaurant throughout the day as well as given them ample notice. This abysmal service from an establishment who claims to be a “restaurant that welcomes those who appreciate the finer things in life” is unacceptable to say the least.
