I stayed overnight for surgery. From the time I checked in to the moment I checked out I was treated with respect and felt well taken care of. Since I went specifically for Dr Gafoor it meant being away from my family so I was alone the entire time. After the neglect, misdiagnosis and physical and verbal abuse I endured at Northdale (government hospital) and the arrogance and neglect at King Edward (government hospital) I was only willing to have Dr Gafoor do the operation. I was nervous because of my previous experiences with hospitals and I thought maybe they’d take advantage of me being there alone. However this was far from true. The nurses (I don’t know the different levels but everyone who isn’t a Dr) were very helpful and spoke up for me when needed. A nice lady with my surname (Magaye) came to greet me the night of my procedure which was quite comforting seeing as she was the closest thing to a relative I had at such a vulnerable time. It was quite embarrassing having to use a bed pan and having to bathe in bed using a dish but the ladies were very understanding and insisted that I shouldn’t be. As a cash paying student I expected a bill that would surely bankrupt me, however it was quite reasonable considering what the original quote ranged.
