My mother was taken to Midlands Medical Centre on the 23rd of October 2025. She was admitted through Casualty with a broken leg. The casualty and admin teams were excellent, and we truly appreciated their professionalism and care. After her admission, she was moved to a ward, but early the next morning she was transferred to High Care. The team there was outstanding. The level of care provided was world-class, and that is the reason we continue to choose Midlands. My mother underwent her operation on the 30th of October and was moved to ICU on the 3rd floor, where she spent five days due to a lack of available ward beds. World class service. She was transferred to Surgical B on the 3rd floor on the afternoon of the 5th of November. During visiting hours that day, we met Dr Y. Mohamed, who informed us that he would request the sister on duty to remove the catheter, explaining that my mother needed to begin using the toilet. However, on the 6th of November, during visiting hours, my mother told us that the catheter had not been removed and that the nurses refused to take her to the toilet. She also did not even have a glass to drink water. There had been a problem with the catheter, which she reported to the sister, but instead of addressing it, they put a diaper on her and left her. When we arrived, she was wet and confused as to why she was messing the bed even though the catheter was still in place. When my mother spoke to sister about the bed been messed, the sister said that she will address it yhe next day. I was extremely upset by the poor service she received from the nurses and sisters on duty. I contacted Dr Y. Mohamed and explained the situation. He was shocked to hear that nothing had been done since the previous day. I told him that I would be taking my mother home, after which he spoke to the sister and arranged for her discharge. Only then did the staff begin to act with urgency. There were many positive moments during my mother’s stay, and numerous staff members performed their duties with care and dedication. However, I do not want anyone else to experience what my mother went through in that ward. There is a growing perception that care in the wards is a nightmare. You have a state-of-the-art facility, and it is unfortunate for the hospital’s reputation to suffer because certain individuals are not fulfilling their responsibilities. I trust that you will investigate this matter thoroughly to ensure that such incidents do not occur again. It is deeply concerning to think of a patient—especially someone elderly or unable to speak for themselves—receiving such poor treatment.

I stayed overnight for surgery. From the time I checked in to the moment I checked out I was treated with respect and felt well taken care of. Since I went specifically for Dr Gafoor it meant being away from my family so I was alone the entire time. After the neglect, misdiagnosis and physical and verbal abuse I endured at Northdale (government hospital) and the arrogance and neglect at King Edward (government hospital) I was only willing to have Dr Gafoor do the operation. I was nervous because of my previous experiences with hospitals and I thought maybe they’d take advantage of me being there alone. However this was far from true. The nurses (I don’t know the different levels but everyone who isn’t a Dr) were very helpful and spoke up for me when needed. A nice lady with my surname (Magaye) came to greet me the night of my procedure which was quite comforting seeing as she was the closest thing to a relative I had at such a vulnerable time. It was quite embarrassing having to use a bed pan and having to bathe in bed using a dish but the ladies were very understanding and insisted that I shouldn’t be. As a cash paying student I expected a bill that would surely bankrupt me, however it was quite reasonable considering what the original quote ranged.

This hospital is supposedly a private hospital. As a private hospital one pays for one's medical aid to ensure in cases of hospitalisation they get their money's worth with nurses who can at least muster a good attitude with a smile in your time of deepest need. I had severe headaches and when I'd ask for something to treat it, id have to wait at minimum 30 minutes before i get any assistance. I can also name a nurse in particular who treated so poorly it was shocking and disappointing. In the Wards u could have 2 hours without any nurse checking up on you, so I don't understand how they operate as supposed "private" hospital.

I had visited midlands medical centre and private hospital in January to make a down payment towards the delivery of my new baby,I had done the same in 2015 for my first delivery which was a pleasant experience, however it seems that 2017 is NOT the same. I had just completed my gynae check up in the same hospital and decided to make my way down to pre-admissions to make my down-payment, I stood at the reception for more than 5 mins before I was even acknowledged by the receptionist who was to "busy".

With no smile on her face she asked "can I help" I enquired about making a down-payment,ridley she replied " no we do not do this anymore,u need to go back ,get a letter from your gynae, then see a nurse from maternity, come back with letters from both sides then only can I open a file" I did explain that I am an existing customer as I had my last baby there and did not have to do this, while talking to her she cut me off saying things have changed since two years back. How sad is it to think we are willing to pay cash in advance for private treatment yet the staff of midlands feel they are doing us a favour like a government hospital.

I eventually got through to a manager in February and made a down payment, on the 19th of April I had gone into early labour I did not expect this as my due date was still 3 weeks away,I arrived at the hospitaland notified my husband who was of town on training to please leave and meet me,when he arrived the nurse advised hI'm to collect my file, again the admin lady on duty was extremely rude she said to him in an abrupt manner that we could not continue without the full outstanding payment,no bank was open to withdraw such a large amount and half the payment had been made my husband advised her that we will make payment the very next morning ,she did not care that I was in labour waiting for him at maternity.

After 9 and a half hours my baby was born at 2 30 am on Tuesday morning , post delivery I was moved into a "boarder mother" room ,exhausted and wanting a shower my heart shattered ,firstly the room door could not close ,there was just a curtain drawn to close my room, the room floors had not been cleaned, and to my complete horror the sanitary bin had not been cleaned, the hand sanitizer was empty , I had no sleep all night I felt as though I was just thrown no one came to check on me ,upon pressing the buzzer 4 a nurse a security guard came through to tell me someone will come through. In my state of pain of could not rest due tho the door that could not close and I was placed in a room right outside theatre which was constantly busy. Ithe felt like hours of torture I could not wait to leave . I had asked for my doctor to discharge me finally at 2pm I was discharged when I recieved my baby while waiting for my husband I noticed her nappy had not been changed from maternity she was just handed to me she looked sore and uncomfortable.

My experience at midlands was extremely heart breaking I paid for a private service but had no service,in my opinion there is no passion by the staff for their jobs,it seems like they are just there to get paid ,the patient doesn't matter , I had always rendered all my cash paying friends to midlands but after this experience even two of my colleagues have changed their mind. I will never recommend this hospital to any one ever again .

I did not even stay the night yet my package included a night stay. I pray to God I neverror have to go back or that no one else has to go through this experience especially after a traumatic birth.

I did not feel like paying the balance as I feel totally robbed of any kind of private care.

Midlands medical centre needs serious customer service s****s sadly a few nurses and an admin lady who did try to help have to be classified under the rest....

27/03/15 been to the midlands hospital cos wife was having a hard time to breath, had to make out a file with still no treatment waited for an hour +- for doc to see her. My wife has a serious illness SLE which at any stage she gets sick we need to admit her to keep her in good health. So before the doc examines her the nurse informs him of wifes situtation cos we were there for b4 for a similar sickness and dey knew how to treat her. The doc does her check up diagnose her wud the flu n says she must go hm after injection. So we spoke to nurse to tell her dat wife doesn't have the flu and dey need to admit her to do a observation. The doc den returns after awhile after been told again of the situtation to cum and tell us in a sacastic way \I'm sorry I'm gona book u a bed for your flu"with is attitude towards us we left with no treatment which was med for a prescription for cough mixture from a pharmacy. As we were leaving the nurse stop us to try an resolve the issue and the best thing dey cud do is get sumone from controll room to tell us he will take it up"
