The MSC Orchestra trip from Durban to Cape Town is to be booked at your own risk. Top marks go to cabin attendants and those unseen heroes who clean the cabins and keep the place clean as well as the professional entertainers & dancers in the shows but that is where compliments stop. The rest of the trip 08-12 January 2020 was characterised firstly by an over crowded ship, bars and shops that open late in the day resulting in overcrowding as few are open at critical times. Food is generally good in the main restaurants but bland and mass produced in the buffet areas with massive congestion at all times of the day. Dress code is not adhered too and the passengers were cheated by the decision to bypass the port of PE due to bad weather that was only communicated some two to three hours after by-passing the port. One understands that weather is an unpredictable thing and one respects the reason. Poor communication however resulted in an inability to cancel and try recover thousands in lost money and reservation for privately organised functions or venues not booked via MSC, for anniversaries and birthdays with waiting guests in PE. I was then expected to purchase an expensive data package at own cost to try contact the s**** and the WIFI system on the boat was poor at best all over the boat with no success achieved. A cruise is a place to experience time at sea but the captain decided to make his way as fast as possible to Cape Town on the Orchestra Speed boat. Once docked a cruise is over so to speak and one gets the impression that the crew would rather be off enjoying themselves in Cape Town venues. The passengers then have to spend time looking out at a Cape Town smelly wharf looking into the windows of the surrounding Hotels. Surely if weather is an issue at least stay at sea and or sail slower to Cape Town for us to enjoy the sea. The MSC Orchestra was put into high gear and past other ships as if they were going backwards. The embarkation process to the boat was poor with inadequate staff support. Only the fact that we have cruised before did we know where to go to then spend hours waiting for rooms in an overcrowded lounge. The disembarkation idea to break the passengers into groups is a great idea but then please stick to the time schedules that ran some hour and a half late that is simply not acceptable. This trip was in my view evidence that the quality aspect of MSC has gone down in favour of Quantity and profit to be made. T ships reception crew were very unsympathetic to assist re contacting the s**** to alter arrangements for a missed port of call. I would be hard pressed to book another cruise with MSC as this is not a cheap holiday by any means and I will not communicate a favourable report to fellow colleagues and friend re this experience. It is also extremely difficult to get to a direct complaints portal at MSC once again illustrating how easy it is to take your money but very difficult to get support when it all goes south. ****et is a far cheaper option with far better customer service and options if you can handle the long flights.
I would like to express my appreciation at receiving excellent service re vehicle search, purchase and delivery of a Mahindra pick-up. The sales executive engaged with me at every turn of events and gave excellent delivery service on my vehicle. I recommend the Mahindra and Honda sales staff as worthy client service agents at the Rivonia branch of Mahindra.
