Hopefully this will serve as a warning to any current member of Anglo Medical Scheme who is hoping some time in the future to utilize the Frailcare Benefit purported to be one of the benefits offered by this scheme. My experience in respect of my recently deceased mother is that the offer of this benefit by AMS is a misrepresentation. My experience was as follows: My housemate attempted for over a month to obtain pre-authorisation for my mother after she had had a stroke and needed to be moved into frailcare. Anglo required that the facility be registered as a frailcare facility. Every frailcare facility that we approached advised us that such registration DOES NOT EXIST IN SOUTH AFRICA. Eventually I spoke to the person manning enquiries in the Pre-Authorisation Department and we agreed that the Nursing Sister managing the facility be registered appropriately and that this Nursing Sister be also registered with Discovery Health. This was done in respect of the Frailcare facility that we chose. I have submitted the claim to Anglo Medical Scheme TWICE and have been ignored...no payment and no communication at all. My mother passed away on 14 March so I have decided there is little point in taking this up with the Council of Medical Schemes. However I would like to make members of AMS aware that AMS will go out of its way to make it difficult, if not impossible, for you to enjoy this benefit. My mother was S M MacDonald.
I placed an order for my 83 year old mother which was delivered on 24 October. Instead of the bath sheets that I ordered for R619.00 they delivered some sort of pillow. They supposedly have arranged pick up on three occasions as they will not action a refund until they pick up the pillow. Nobody ever pitches for the pick up. Meanwhile my 83 year old mother, on a fixed pension, is out of pocket R619.00. We are still waiting on 9 December.
