If you’re anything like me, it takes a lot of time, effort, and risk to find a salon to trust with my precious hair. Like fashion habits and makeup preferences, the way you deal with your hair says a lot about you. Every girl has her signature style and desire to be unique secrets. You know as well as I, that the morning hair, stressed hair, dehydrated and dull hair days and windy hair days are best not visited upon by others. So when seeking out professional help from hairdressers that know hair best we want our hairdresser to understand us. For me, that is without reservation Exquisite Hair on the Bluff, in Durban. Great hair days for me start with superior quality products and my great hairdresser. That is my secret to every day being a good hair day. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am meticulous about my precious hair and skin. They mean way more to me than fashion and frills and having disappointing hair makes me kind of hot-headed. My hair is an extension of my personality. I have always maintained that as a woman, great hair and good shoes are integral to looking and feeling confident, for me anyway. I’m a huge fan of low-maintenance beauty, especially when it comes to my hair and I trust Exquisite Hair to always use the best quality products that inevitably make it easy to maintain my hair. My personality is and always has been bold and assertive and Exquisite Hair knows this about me. So much so that when I go there, I always ask Exquisite Hair to surprise me and to date, they have consistently done that many times over. So now instead of being hot-headed, I can now be called the Red Head! Change is often a good thing provided we have the courage to be adventurous. I know women who for all their lives have opted for cut, wash, set, style, and repeat the same. The thing is these women miss out on so very much simply because their hairdresser is on autopilot. My hairdresser thankfully is not one of those!!! She brings out the best in my hair every time because she respects me and my hair enough, to care about her craft and clients enough and to make their every visit special and lasting. She has the courage to be adventurous just like me. She blends her colours to suit my skin tone, my hairstyle and my personality making my hair colour unique to me every time! Quality products worth their salt are a big part of the experience at Exquisite Hair. Couple that with the look and feel of a New York-style setting and this makes for a unique salon experience. Laidback and the contemporary setting set me at ease, knowing that my confident hairdresser knows hair best, and that speaks volumes for her brand. Trust me when I say, that bright lights and fancy decor do not a great hair salon make!!! The hands holding the scissor, the eye blending your colour and the expertise of years of tried and tested knowledge can only do that. Exquisite Hair is so confident in their clients returning time after time, over the years, that I also got my very own rewards card. Perhaps ask them about that when you go seek out, this one of a kind experience. Having your hair done here is nothing short of a delight. Exquisite Hair has the ability to take the colours from the famous and fabulous Matrix and blend them into a signature, personalised colour that not only transforms my hair but my overall look each time. They stock and sell also styling tools and hair care products, that leave one looking salon confident every day. You may even find yourself running your fingers through your hair all day like me because it feels so silky smooth and sleek. I cannot forget to mention the highlight… the shine!!! My hair positively glows in the sunlight. My man saying you look beautiful is the added bonus when I get home. Don’t you also feel extra special when your man says that? I could never get weary of hearing that from my man. Do I think that you would love to have Exquisite Hair? Of course, I do. Any woman that values her precious hair would want only the best of care for her hair. It is kind of a game-changer in my opinion. Confident women exude confidence and boldness to try something new. Why not be adventurous and let this skilled hair guru lead you to the best hair you ever had. I know I did and that is why I keep going back. Investing in your precious hair is equally as important as choosing the right hairdresser.
For very many Durbanites authentic Mexican food akin to the images on the television, of fiesta-style fare is an experience many wishes to personally experience. For whatever reason in my mind, the thought of Mexican food conjures up the images of large families coming together, to indulge in copious amounts of very flavorful and spicy offerings. Coupled with the perpetuation that Mexican food is a budget-friendly fare that caters to one’s every whim. For a while now many locals have not been privy to the existence of such an establishment in Durban, South Africa. The few that do know of La Rosa Mexican Grille at Suncoast Durban, seem to want to keep this to themselves. I believe such finds are worth blabbing about to all and sundry because supporting local establishments is my forte. From the moment you walk through the door the vibrant sounds of sound system assault the senses and you find yourself transfixed. All around you talented artists seem to have captured a piece of Mexico with bold illustrations that transport you. The decor speaks to the overall vibe of the place rich in colours and textures, so much so that one almost forgets you are there for the food and the promise of a taste sensation like no other. At that very moment I realised, standing there taking in everything, why they were voted Best Experiential Restaurant in Durban. Additionally they were also voted second best restaurant in Durban. I tell you this so that when you venture to Durban, South Africa you remember to add this to your itinerary. If one is to truly experience the taste of Mexico one simply has to order the Fajitas. It arrives on a piping hot skillet filled with sizzling chicken or beef strips, sitting on top of a bed of sautéed peppers and onions, micro greens and fresh lemon, flanked by spicy rice. Accompanying that is fresh salsa, guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese. The flour tortillas having been freshly made are served separately in a closed container to retain their freshness. As you breathe in the mouth watering dish before you and build your own fajita you feel your taste buds come alive. An explosion of flavors and textures in every bite and you already decide you are coming back for more taste sensations such as this. You promise yourself to eat until you are full but tend to keep digging into the yummy goodness before you. If you are anything like me you even convince yourself that you can replicate the components. Truth be told this authentic Mexican fare is best experienced here. Try if you must to replicate but know that the signature tastes come from a kitchen that has truly taken pains, to ensure your delight in every bite. You may find you simply want to tell everyone and no one. Everyone cos you enjoy it so much and no one because you want to keep this dining experience for yourself. I could go into detail about the more than ample bar facilities, and menu items as well as the ambience but I figure I have to leave just enough to the imagination. Go in search of this taste of Mexico in Durban, South Africa. You simply must experience this sometime if only to let others know you have finally tasted authentic Mexican food outside of Mexico.
A delightful and refreshing feel of Mozambique right on my doorstep. From the moment you enter, along the mysterious corridor, filled with anticipation. Coupled with what you think you know, up until you depart satiated and enthralled by the experience. This oasis opens out into the most glorious, well lit foyer boasting a unique central attraction, their Wishing Well!!! I was greeted by the most bubbly, confident and vibrant waiter ever!!!! His first words had me in a time warp of sorts as he happily welcomed me and requested my passport!!! He said, “Welcome to Mozambique, can I have your passport.” Already gleefully thrilled I enquired as to who he was and his reply, “ Madam, I am Trevor Noah!” Coupled with the authentic sights and sounds before me, kindly forgive me for instantaneously believing, I had indeed arrived somewhere other than Florida Road, Durban. After all one does not simply meet Trevor Noah, clutching a restaurant menu and beaming with that radiant smile. For those of you who may have encountered this phenomenal young man, I can be assured, you know exactly who I speak of. As you enter through those gates, the anticipation of what is to follow, cannot be denied. The restaurant has a two level seating layout, boasting beautiful artwork and attention to detail, that further enhances the whole feel of the place. One gets the sense, that great thought and personal experience, had gone into the moulding of the masterpiece, that is Mo-Zam-Bik Florida Road!!! The staff though, are a big part of my delightful tale about my personal experience, with their fantastic, delicious and noteworthy menu. More about that in a bit…..We were ushered in like royalty, seated like VIP guests, in a prepared table set up for our birthday ‘boys’, to enjoy their much anticipated lunch. Complete with wine glasses, decorated and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY sign too!!! We happily munched on complimentary, roasted peanuts, as we awaited our drinks. I excitedly took in the sights and sounds, clicking away, like the paparazzi oblivious, to everything and anything. Capturing all that is Mo-Zam-Bi**** Just when I think I am sufficiently impressed, the amazing, smiling, casual Das Naidoo arrives. I immediately realise, why his staff, are such great hosts! Either that, or there is something to be said, about that Wishing Well!!! He was beaming with pride and absolutely relaxed, as well he should be! When one considers, his island paradise, ambience and staffing choices. Das Naidoo proved to be such a humble, genuinely authentic, gem of a man, who made us feel more like family visiting, than patrons in his establishment. The menu was met with delight, as everyone in our clan, had found their favourites quite readily. Our drinks arrived well chilled and bursting with colour, depth and flavour. My man declared his Banana Milkshake and Dad’s Strawberry the Best Milkshake Ever! He said the thick, creamy shake, with its bright, chewy sweets and sprinkles were reason enough to go there. I reckon, our ****tails, two Mojitos and a Cosmopolitan, were equally impressive!!! We ordered two Steak Pregos with chips, popular dishes at Mo-Zam-Bik. My man, opted for the Half Chicken Moz-BQ, peri peri basting with Chips. Mother opted for, Hake and Chips and boy was she surprised and in for a treat!!! I opted for the Hake and Prawn Combo, half chips and half rice. I absolutely, cannot deny it was an excellent choice! The meals arrived, smelling mouth watering good, gleaming in colour and artistically vibrant. Mother had the highest praise, for the s**** of the most well cooked seafood, she has ever eaten and I undeniably agree with her. The more than generous portions, were only outdone by the soft, flaky, melt in your mouth hake, drenched in delicious rich sauces. My Prawns were huge, well seasoned and in a creamy sauce, unrivalled by any other I know. That undeniable, lemony, peri peri, creamy garlic, goodness adequately blanketing, the juiciest prawns. The coconut, creamy flavored rice with a hint of goodness, I don’t know, lime perhaps!!! I have not eaten prawns this fantastic, in years and it was enjoyed later in the day, for dinner too. Incredibly relished by my son too the next day. (I kid you not!!! My man’s Chicken with Chips was like no other. The juicy, huge portions arrived saturated, in a perfectly well marinated, char grilled platter, with a bit of a bite, enough for a generous doggy bag, even for him. Our tummies filled to the maximum and having no place for desserts, we made ready to roll on out of there, to an afternoon siesta. Only to be pleasantly surprised, by the drum beats and sounds of the vibrant, jovial staff, serenading the birthday ‘boys’, with not one, but two cakes with candles! The cake aside from being an absolutely, wonderful end to a marvellous meal was rich, moist and chocolaty. Almost like a brownie, but not quite…. covered in a decadent, creamy, memorable frosting!!! Me thinks I should hunt down this well hidden baker and befriend said baker. If you are looking to impress colleagues, for business meetings, in a relaxed setting, friends who think they know quality meals, done to perfection or family and even more so, the in laws, I reckon you go make a booking. Let Mo-Zam-Bik Florida Road, pull out all the stops for you. Go experience this for yourself and feel the magic, at Mo-Zam-Bik Florida Road. Maybe even make a wish or two in their Wishing Well!
