I was almost caught out by property *****sters. I app**** for an apartment that was listed to RentUncle (or similar property adverti*****t platforms) and was sent an email with an application form and photographs of the listing. The form itself seemed very professional and requires the same kind of information has many others from alternative (legitimate) agencies. I sent the completed form, only to hear that I need to make a deposit of R8600 before even being able to view the property. This set off major warning lights, as it is certainly not common procedure to complete a transaction before any agreements have been signed, especially not before even viewing the property and agreeing to go ahead with the lease. I looked into them a bit more thoroughly and found a couple of other reviews flagging them as ****mers. Property is so sought-after in the Cape Town area that they prey on people who are desperate enough to do anything to secure a place to stay, even if it means blindly transferring thousands of Rands. It seems as if the original "Henderson Properties" is a real estate firm based in the USA. This *****ulent firm's emails are also sent from a Gmail address, which is concerning, since most companies have their own domains. Please be on the lookout for these guys.
Customer service is truly dismal. Staff often disappear behind the counter for minutes on end. The majority of the floor staff is unfriendly and don't seem to want to sell you anything. They do not respond to emails if you try to place an order remotely but then also seem as if they don't want you in store because of COVID regulations. Customers are asked to reverse their vehicles into the workshop area (past the sign that says no customers allowed beyond this point) in order for the staff to load your purchase when you can come to collect it. When there are other customers in the bay, they don't bring your purchase out and you are forced to wait indefinitely until the previous customer leaves the designated area, even though the parking bays are right next to the area. The staff also didn't ask a customer if he could move his vehicle when he spent at least 15 mins securing the wood at the back of his bakkie after they had loaded it. There is ample parking space close enough for customers not to have to block the work flow after they have received their items and the staff just ignore any requests to assist.
