A few days ago I posted on Facebook camping groups about Montagu Resort Caravan Park and people have the wrong idea. The rules ain't the problem, it is the lack of people skills and how you are treated as a client. Would you like to be disrespected? Be aware you sign that you will adhere to the rules but some rules were not even on the paper you signed. Just made up to show you that they in control. Eg of one stupid made-up rule is displayed in a picture I attached. Enjoying a cup of tea and a campfire in the braai bin on the sand and Joey came to reprimand us that this is not allowed. The reason, your fire must be on a stand at knee height. A campfire is synonymous with camping. She was afraid that we might burn the sand. I will understand if I made a fire on the paving or the grass but on the sand, how absurd is that. They gave us a site and had guys cutting trees from early morning till whenever they leave. Have you ever seen a guy cutting a tree and using a digger loader to pull the tree from falling in the wrong direction? This is to be a clear indication of incompetence. No Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) rules adhere to whilst cutting of trees and you have guests on your property. When my family arrived, they were told they cannot camp as we requested 3 sites next to each other as per email. Joey (office staff)came to my site while I was pitching a tent for my Cousin. She lied to me when I put up a tent before the 1st family arrived on Sunday. The site in question is booked out for two days. Seriously no one came and I had to move the tent to the site on the other side of my caravan. When the 3rd family came they were told to go camp on site 47 because they going to cut the trees where we were camping. In that area where we set up camp the entire 10 days, there were only 5 sites occupied for the duration of our stay. This woman (Joey) went out of her way to make us understand she is in control. This place can easily be mistaken for a concentration camp. The tree next to our site, a branch broke off and fell on our braai stand and another was dangerously left half cut overhanging my caravan. That was an accident waiting to happen. The tree in the video broke off without them knowing. What if one of the kids were playing in that area. Dust and the noise made by the contractor on a daily basis were another concern. I understand that you need to do maintenance work but you should have planned accordingly not to disrupt or disturb your guests in any way. At most 5 out of approximately 15 sites were occupied in the block where we camped. You have your opinions about me complaining on Facebook and you are entitled to it but what about the peace that I was hoping to have while camping there. I did not stay at the resort for free and in return, I wanted value for my hard-earned money. The 1st week of our stay at the resort it was just my wife and me. With the other families arriving we never got out of hand by disturbing fellow Campers or their peace. We had no music playing at all or drinking issues. Neither did we make noise at any given time. We obeyed the rules of the park but they didn't extend the same courtesy towards us and you expect me to look the other way. If they at least said that they acknowledged receipt of my email and said they will address it, I would never have gone the name and shame route. My family members and I sent them multiple emails with pictures and did not receive any response from management. For the record there were no race-related issues with them as I have witnessed they are oblivious to which race you belong, they are just plain arrogant and rude. They will disrespect you regardless of the color of your skin if you challenge them. Never in my life have I come across such business people who disrespect their guests like Montagu Resort Caravan Park. Business in S.A. is suffering because of the pandemic. As a proud S.A. I believe in supporting proudly South African business. I have attached some videos and photos of what I had to endure while camping there for 10 days. I give them credit for is the cleanliness and the safety of the resort. — in Montagu, Western Cape.
