We booked a camping site for a week in July and was ready to enjoy the two hot swimming pools and relax in this cold winter. On arrival both hot swimming pools were closed and showers had no hot water. After numerus complaints from ourselves and other campers one shower in one ablution block was fix and had warm water. The hot swimming pools was only opened and attempts were made to fix the pools on the Friday(The FIFTH Day), but still no hot water. My son arrived on the Friday and was told to pay R60 for the extra vehicle although he was sleeping in the caravan's tent on the same plot as us. There was nothing on the website about a R60 for a extra vehicle nor were we told about it when we explicitly indicated in our email when we did the booking, that my son will only be joining us on the Friday. We feel that we did not get our R4,390's worth as the main attraction was the two hot swimming pools.

A few days ago I posted on Facebook camping groups about Montagu Resort Caravan Park and people have the wrong idea. The rules ain't the problem, it is the lack of people skills and how you are treated as a client. Would you like to be disrespected? Be aware you sign that you will adhere to the rules but some rules were not even on the paper you signed. Just made up to show you that they in control. Eg of one stupid made-up rule is displayed in a picture I attached. Enjoying a cup of tea and a campfire in the braai bin on the sand and Joey came to reprimand us that this is not allowed. The reason, your fire must be on a stand at knee height. A campfire is synonymous with camping. She was afraid that we might burn the sand. I will understand if I made a fire on the paving or the grass but on the sand, how absurd is that. They gave us a site and had guys cutting trees from early morning till whenever they leave. Have you ever seen a guy cutting a tree and using a digger loader to pull the tree from falling in the wrong direction? This is to be a clear indication of incompetence. No Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) rules adhere to whilst cutting of trees and you have guests on your property. When my family arrived, they were told they cannot camp as we requested 3 sites next to each other as per email. Joey (office staff)came to my site while I was pitching a tent for my Cousin. She lied to me when I put up a tent before the 1st family arrived on Sunday. The site in question is booked out for two days. Seriously no one came and I had to move the tent to the site on the other side of my caravan. When the 3rd family came they were told to go camp on site 47 because they going to cut the trees where we were camping. In that area where we set up camp the entire 10 days, there were only 5 sites occupied for the duration of our stay. This woman (Joey) went out of her way to make us understand she is in control. This place can easily be mistaken for a concentration camp. The tree next to our site, a branch broke off and fell on our braai stand and another was dangerously left half cut overhanging my caravan. That was an accident waiting to happen. The tree in the video broke off without them knowing. What if one of the kids were playing in that area. Dust and the noise made by the contractor on a daily basis were another concern. I understand that you need to do maintenance work but you should have planned accordingly not to disrupt or disturb your guests in any way. At most 5 out of approximately 15 sites were occupied in the block where we camped. You have your opinions about me complaining on Facebook and you are entitled to it but what about the peace that I was hoping to have while camping there. I did not stay at the resort for free and in return, I wanted value for my hard-earned money. The 1st week of our stay at the resort it was just my wife and me. With the other families arriving we never got out of hand by disturbing fellow Campers or their peace. We had no music playing at all or drinking issues. Neither did we make noise at any given time. We obeyed the rules of the park but they didn't extend the same courtesy towards us and you expect me to look the other way. If they at least said that they acknowledged receipt of my email and said they will address it, I would never have gone the name and shame route. My family members and I sent them multiple emails with pictures and did not receive any response from management. For the record there were no race-related issues with them as I have witnessed they are oblivious to which race you belong, they are just plain arrogant and rude. They will disrespect you regardless of the color of your skin if you challenge them. Never in my life have I come across such business people who disrespect their guests like Montagu Resort Caravan Park. Business in S.A. is suffering because of the pandemic. As a proud S.A. I believe in supporting proudly South African business. I have attached some videos and photos of what I had to endure while camping there for 10 days. I give them credit for is the cleanliness and the safety of the resort. — in Montagu, Western Cape.

A lovely, tranquil park but those in management and reception are rude, arrogant and money grabbing. I tried to change our dates from 10 to 7 nights (we were told we had to book for a min. of 10) a week before arrival as I needed to get home for an appointment and was told in a cut email that it was less than 2 weeks prior to arrival so would still be liable for the the full period. On Day 3 we booked the paddle boats and despite Covid signage around the campsite, they refused to sanitise the paddle boat handles when I enquired. Our money was flung back at us by the haughty receptionist and I was told sarcastically not to 'go where other people are using things'!? There are signs around the pool area to say that a maximum of 20 people are allowed there at a time but no one monitors it and there were more often than not 20 plus people in and around the pool. The poor staff work long hours in the heat and seem desperately unhappy. If they treat paying customers with such disdain one can't help but wonder how they treat their workers.

STAY AWAY FROM MONTAGU CARAVAN PARK- THEY WILL TURN YOUR CAMPING HOLIDAY INTO A NIGHTMARE. THE YOUNG, SHORT "OWNER THREATENED TO ASSAULT MY 63 YEAR OLD HUSBAND AND TOLD HIM HE WOULD BREAK BOTH HIS KNEE CAPS. FROM THE MINUTE WE ARRIVED, WE EXPERIENCED RESISTANCE AND UNFRIENDLINESS. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH PAYMENTS, I WONDER WHY? THE SCARY THING IS THAT ONCE WE LEFT THE CAMP, EVERY 2ND PERSON YOU MEET IN MONTAGU HAS A HORROR STORY TO TELL ABOUT THESE PEOPLE. WE NEVER LET OTHER PEOPLE'S REVIEWS AFFECT US FROM STAYING PLACES, BUT THIS TIME WE SHOULD RATHER HAVE BELIEVED THE BAD REVIEWS BEING POSTED. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HOSPITALITY IS

I am absolutely appalled by the way they dealt with our booking. We booked a 4 sleeper and then wanted to secure a 7 sleeper as well. First of all, they can't assist me over the phone and always ask me to send an email. why? secondly, they took days to respond, as they claim that there emails was down, and that the admin person was off. My goodness, if the admin person is off, then get someone else to assist me. A whole week later and after calling 4 days in a row, I finally get a response to say that the 7 sleeper is not available. The admin at this place is so bad. Thank you for spoiling my plans for my wife's bday weekend. PLEASE GUYS - DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND RATHER GO TO ANOTHER CAMP SITE

I would like to put my complaint in writing and I would like to receive a response from the owner, Antoinette Kotze, If she cares... 1. Due to the Corona Virus challenge, our friends booked camping sites for us from 20th - 22nd March. they needed to cancel due to a lack of economic downfall and a loss of income because of Corona. 2. On Monday 16 March they canceled the booking. 3. Immediately, I called Carin advising that we the Williams, would like to book 1 site, and immediately paid the deposit of R410. 4. On Tuesday I fell ill, we decided to wait it out and see if I could recover before Friday. (I was flat on my back, in bed) 5. Thursday evening before 5 (16h52 exactly), I called and spoke to Carin, requesting that we move the camping dates out till 30th - 4th April (4 nights instead of 2 nights), she said I need to send an email and she will see what she can do, which I immediately did. 6. On Friday morning at 7h50, I spoke to Joey/Jade, advising her that I haven't heard from Carin as promised, keeping in mind, this is the day we needed to arrive. 7. At 8h10, we received an email from Carin saying that they can not accommodate our request to move the dates as it was short notice and we need to advise her if she needs to cancel the booking. Which means we will lose our R410. 8. I then called Carin and she showed no intention to assist. We argued. - I requested to speak to management and Carin said they not available, only on Monday. 9. My wife then called the same number and Joey answered. She also showed the behavior of being defensive. 10. My wife and I had no choice, but to hustle to get packed, we arranged a trailer, packed and off to Montagu we went. a 3-hour drive from where we live.- The reason we went was, based on the attitude of both employees, we weren't going to let Montagu earn a clean profit of R410 for free! So we went, hating the fact that we needed to support the caravan park. 11. When we got to Montagu, the gate was closed. My wife then called the mobile number (used previously). My wife requested for them to open the gate. Carin, who answered said they busy with other customers we need to wait out turn. We waited form10 min, along with 3 other cars behind us. Another camper opened for us. 12. When we arrived at the office, we could immediately sense hostility from both Carin and Joey. 13. They were unaccommodating and ignored me, and we argued. 14. I walked out and my wife dealt with them. I would like to bring this to your attention: I know Montagu is a family business, I could sense the arrogance from Carin who is the wife of a son or whoever... there was no sense of customer service, no will to want to assist. All she said was it was policy, yet she could tell me that on Thursday when I called. I requested management to call me and Carin said Montagu Caravan Park doesn't make external calls they only communicate via email. This is my other concern.Joey, who dealt with clients, had gloves on. NOWHERE in the park, for campers was any sort of hand sanitizer or soap. Kind of confirms the attitude of Joey and Carin - not in it for the campers... I don't expect anyone to contact me, only because this was my experience. And If no one does, it proves my point. At this point, I have also not gotten an apology from Joey or Carin, which I expect in writing. Best regards Wesley Williams

While camping, the owners son mowed the lawns with a tractor mower on 18 January - a stone shot up and slashed a hole in our brand new canvas gazebo! We immediately brought it to their attention and after much rudeness and arguing they agreed to pay for a patch... we saved for 6 months to buy a new gazebo and didn't want a patched thing. Once home we emailed a quote for the same but new replacement and said we don't want the money, they can pay the shop directly and they could have the broken one. They did not deem it necessary to respond to our emails or phone messages. When we did eventually get through they simply said "they will pay for a patch or nothing" and slammed the phone down in our ear, twice! Whoa - that's customer service at it's "best" and with that attitude we will never go again or recommend them to our camping friends. Warning .... they don't give a **** about your property, as long as they get their money, that's all they care about.
